And in your mind you're being clever with such disrespect to something so sacred as a nations flag. I will do the decent thing and remove my childish avatar, what you do with your is up to you.

Forgive me UWS but I cannot remember what your avatar was.

In any event I fear I am going to offend you further by saying that I would be quite happy to wipe my bum with yours or any other nation's flag. I have to say that you are the one that shows no respect to what some other people hold dear and close to their hearts as it your beloved "sacred" flag that flies above a good deal of someone else's home, above the old villages of the occupied north.

Umit - just trying to get some debate going although I think we're running the risk of going off-thread.

Hey all. Bit reticent about posting in the middle of a 'flag burning' off-shoot and in the interests of prudence I've stayed well clear of the 'problem' topic to date.

However, I've got a serious question about property in the occupied area and I'm hoping that someone here could assist.

One of my colleagues in work has been looking into buying an apartment / villa at the new golf course development (Korineum in Esentepe???). He's over here for a couple of weeks and has been in discussion with the developers.

He's been informed that the land the development is on has freehold title and that it does not fall within the scope of contested ownership.

Having read the threads on here for a while, I feel that he may not have been told the entire truth. However, there is a hotel and various other developments going up in the area and he reckons that a lot of the property has been sold.

Does anybody have knowledge of this area or some advice (preferably helpful ...) as to where to point him to get truly independent advice?

Personally, I think he's nuts. But I'd rather give him some facts to back it up.

Thanks in advance.

This is the only authority on the planet that can clear up land issues in the occupied territory…

Department of Lands and Surveys

JimB - Esentepe is still known as Agios Amvrosios by the 2,000 or so of its pre-74 inhabitants, all of whom were greek speaking, all of whom fled south in the first days of the Turkish invasion. Its population was 100% greek speaking. There is no land within the village boundary that has not been "stolen" so I would urge your friend to be very, very cautious.

If you want independent verification, the Kyrenia District Land Registry Office is still functioning.

( Do bear in mind that land transfers that don't go through the RoC are deemed to be illegal )

If you believe there will ever be a solution in Cyprus then your friend should not buy disputed land, the title deeds given by the TRNC clearly indicate whether it is exchanged land or gifted land, stay well clear of gifted land has it has no land in the south to back it up. Most Brits who have purchased land in the TRNC clearly feel there will never be a solution in Cyprus therefore they do not feel their investment is unsafe, we continue to prove them right.

Thanks VP .... I thought I was right. :D

So no land has been exchanged, none "gifted" and no land transactions are legal without going through the RoC.

Perfectly simple, only a criminal would still be mixing with anything in the "trnc".
