URGENT MESSAGE: Greek Cypriots change !

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Rebel.Without.A.Pause » Fri May 23, 2008 4:08 pm

Nikitas, since when has a member of the Greek Cypriot political establishment openly stated, without reservation, that they would be prepared to share power with the Turkish Cypriots on an equal and non-discriminatory basis ? Never, I think is the answer. Are you prepared to state it ? I suspect not, along with the vast majority of other Greek Cypriot users on this forum.

Non-discriminatory lol? You mean letting one Turkish Cypriot have the power of 5 Greek Cypriot votes???

Also why is it that Turkish Cypriots only think there are two communties on the island? What about Maronites and Armenians?? The young Turkish Cypriots of today who are so blinded by nationalist propaganda really need to do more homework on Cyprus as a whole.

Without the RoC blessing I am afraid you are staying put...

In order to fullfill your aspirations what exactly are you bringing to the negotiating table?

Hi Boomerang, get that shrimp ready for the barbie ! The R o C blessing is a non-starter and it's this kind of nonsense that's preventing genuine progress. Whether you like it or not the Turkish Cypriot community voted for the re-unification of Cyprus in 2004 but is now on the edge, sick of being handcuffed by your 'legal' status. With each day that passes we fall deeper into the bosom of Turkey. I do not want this, I want re-unification where as a community you accept us as being Cypriot and thus equal, as enshrined by the London - Zurich Accords. Do you not accept this ? Are we not your co-partners ? The next best outcome of course is that we divorce for ever.

PS: I'd like some kadayif as well please !

You want the 1960 agreements?...are you sure about this?...that would mean all people go back to their homes as it was the day the agreements were signed...Am I hearing you right here?

Anytime mate, the barbie is always ready, shrimps, we call them prawns, are plentiful, and even the kadayif...had some the other day...

Neither of us can give free rein to our national aspirations, however natural and laudable they may be, without respect for the corresponding aspirations of the other. For us Greek Cypriots this has been a hard and painful lesson , and perhaps we have been too slow in learning it. Accordingly , on behalf of the Greek Cypriot people and with the full support of the Government of Greece we now solemnly renounce any aspiration to bring about the political union of Cyprus with Greece and we adhere to the aim of maintaining the independence of the Republic of Cyprus. We also declare our readiness to join with our Turkish Cypriot compatriots in establishing a new and mutually acceptable basis for the co-existance of the two peoples in Cyprus in a bi-zonal and bi-communal state, without recourse to oppression and where all Cypriots are regarded as equals and not of majority and minority and share power in the governance of our beautiful island.

Would such a statement be too hard for you Greek Cypriots to agree with ?

Muzzy, your comment:

Shows that you do not follow the news on CYBC English broadcast. The BBF solution based on political equality of the two communities is a phrase reiterated every time the President of the RoC is interviewed.

I don't think that is proper for a Turkish national to ask the Cypriot people for their opinion on any matter.
You refer to Cyprus as OUR beautiful island , but it isn't yours mate it belongs to all CYPRIOTS , the G/Cs the T/Cs Armenians Maronites and others but most certainly not to either Turks or Greeks.

So I'm a Turkish national am I ? ...........................NOT.

Muzzy, let me change your declaration a bit, and see if you will agree with it!

“The Turkish Cypriot community is and always will be a part of that spiritual unity of Turkism. We recognize that our Greek Cypriot compatriots are linked by similar ties of religion, culture and language with the rest of Hellenism. These are facts of history which nothing will alter. But both communities we are also part of the people of Cyprus, destined to co-exist in this small island which we hold in common as our native land. This imposes on both our communities an obligation to live and let live. Neither of us can give free rein to our national aspirations, however natural and laudable they may sound to us, without respect for the corresponding aspirations of the other. Would you agree and sign the above declaration?

At last, a Greek Cypriot with sense and realism. We can do business together Kifeas. Welcome to the negotiating table ! :D
