Sorry for being a sounding stupid, this is the first time I have posted anything on the site, I like to read, but prefer to keep out of things and most topics start to degenerated into a diatribe of abuse amongst it's participants. This Fanos chap, is he the same person my family and I met last year - we called him the 'only Greek in the Village'. We had problems hiring a car and he offered to hire one for us. It wasn't needed, but he came with us around the whole of TRNC, showing us places of interest and showing us where his old home was in Famagusta. He took us to the Karpas and we visited his aunt. We stayed over for the night (albiet in a hotel), but he stayed with his aunt. He was a news reader and took us to the TV station where my son had the privilege of watching him present the news - in Greek - but wearing a smart shirt and tie, but wearing shorts! Only filmed from the waist up! In his spare time (he worked at the University near Famagusta which was closed whilst we were there due to summer holidays). All I can say is he is a lovely man, he has never asked to borrow money from us and spent so much time with us telling us the history of Cyprus (from both perspectives). Although we never paid him money, we did treat him to the odd meal with us, which considering he was driving meant that we could have a glass or two of wine and was far cheaper than getting a cab! Great company and a true gentleman. I just don't understand, if he has done these terrible things, why do you not sort things out in a civilised manner and confront him, rather than hanging out your dirty linen in public with other like minded people! Surely people that lend money to people do not do so unless they know the person and that they can pay them back, who pays money to a charity via a third person, unless of course they are carrying a charity pot - I don't even do that because I know that a percentage goes to the organisers rather than the charity itself! As I have said, I feel it very sad that all these forums end up in such squabbles. You post something about "best place to find dog food" and end up with some poor sod getting it. Please we are all adults here, we should deal with our own actions and problems without getting support from outside sources first. Unless there are other motives. Hiding behind email addresses does nothing - I could be Fanos, but I am not, if you would like to email me direct I will give you my telephone number and be happy to talk to you. Sorry I've gone on a bit . . . . :D

A true gentleman !!!!
This disgusting individual that you audaciously call a gentleman is nothing short of a con man of the worst type. Let me tell you my naive friend what this despicable con merchant is.
He made an appeal on this forum requesting donations for trhe T/C Cancer fund , Cancer Tulip . I responded to his appeal since cancer awareness and raising money is very much a part of my life. This low down crook , not only took the donation I sent to him , £100.00 , but had the audacity , as you would expect from a scoundrel, to PM me asking for a personal loan !! He obtained money by deception , he coned quite a few members on this forum to lend him money which they have NEVER had repaid. He is the lowest of the low , a common bloody con man that would sell his own mother for a bucket of water. This despicable scoundrel embezzled funds destined for the Cancer Centre of the Turkish Cypriots .
He is abominable , a complete and utter garbage of a man .
ps.I'm still fuming about this indescribable act by a bloody crook and if I ever catch up with him I shall punch his face out.
What a bloody disgrace to the human race .
You were taken in mate just as I was , this stupid bloody c..nt deserves what he gets and believe me this bastard will get his rewards soon !!

Oh dear, my instincts told me not to get involved in these forums, how can I be naive if the guy was nice to us, took no money (asked for no money) and helped us out. I was just pointing out that I thought I knew the guy and he never tried to con us with tales of woe or anything.

In retrospect you are correct - I am naive - for joining in this load of clap trap.

But not that naive to give money to a third person for a charity or give large sums of money for so called 'sick children' in expectation of getting the money back

well helloluv...if you got away from fanos without having to fork over any money, or presuming you are a woman, have your clothes fall off, then consider yourself lucky. there is something to be said for a man who has 3 ex wives and a bunch of kids to support, and DOESN"T support, and runs off to the TRNC to hide from his obligations (the children). yup, three is something to be said about a man like that, but i'm too much of a lady to say it.
