Moving to Cyprus

Postby Plato » Thu May 22, 2008 11:21 pm

Hi,

I am 23 years old. I am planning to move to Cyprus this summer and I was wondering whether I would have to do national service.

I am British. My parents are both British, although my father is of Greek Cypriot origin and both of his parents (my grandparents) were born in Cyprus. So I guess that makes me half Greek Cypriot.

Would I have to do national service with the Cypriot National Guard? I plan to stay in Cyprus for probably around a year.

My dad went to Cyprus years ago for a holiday and they tried to stop him returning to the UK as he hadn't done his national service! Please can I have some advice.

Thank you.

Wouldn't that be ironic? If your father hadn't done military service why will you? What are the odds? I suggest you call the good people at the ministry of foreign affairs. http://www.mfa.gov.cy/

My father has never lived in Cyprus. He went there for a holiday. I plan to live in Cyprus for a while. That was clear from my earlier post. So please get your facts straight before you use sarcasm.

Instead of asking us folks on here why don't you contact the Government? You will get a better answer
