My dad used to go around singing it, having become fluent in Italian courtesy of Mussolini and his POW language facilities in WWII ... I guess it was my dad's way of having the last laugh on the big-little dictator

Volare is the one I like most also! :P And the thing with the voting is not political it is MINORITIES. The majority of a country might not have much incentive to vote and if they vote each one might vote for different country so their votes are diluted. But the minorities in that country will always vote a lot for their country of origin. For example in Germany the Turks are only 2.5% but they vote like crazy and Germany always gives at least 8 points to Turkey. Imagine what Montenegro will do that there is 35% Serbians and 8% Bosnians in it, or Bosnia that has 37% Serbians and 14% Croats, or Latvia that has 30% Russian and 5% Lithuanian ... you get the picture! Oh, there is also Cyprus, that has 80% Greek MAJORITY. But it was not our choice to be a separate country so don't blame us for it! ;)

In the North, most of the population gathers around TV sets to root for the Turkish entry. In the South, Greek Cypriots spur on their own singer, while feverishly voting for Greece
...
it's not a poll on the songs any more - it's very political, and more like a poll on how many aunties you happen to have in Montenegro

"any more"?
