Postby tifftifco2 » Tue May 20, 2008 10:15 pm

hello everyone me and my partner are planning to move to cyprus for a year initally and if we like it to stay for good later in the year at the end of the summer hopefully! we have no ties over here in england we private rent so it's just a months notice we have done lots of research but we just want a few tips whats the best and worst areas we want to be in the south we think my partner is an very experianced plasterer (14 years) will there be plenty of work for him? if so does anyone know where is a good place to look or apply for jobs? if not plastering what about other jobs? where are there houses to rent that are not to expensive and what are the wages like over here for ie a plasterer builder, what are the genral living costs i know what the official pages say about all this but i want real personal experiances we want to be where the work is we are flying out next month to look round also we have a 4 year old daughter so she will need to go to school where are there English speaking schools we ideally need these 3 things in 1 place house because we have 2 dogs work and school and are there many jobs that would be in school hours for me just a little job im a health care assistant for nhs over here but not sure if you can get these jobs over there im still a bit clueless on somethings so any advice wuld be really appreciated thanks in advance

Are you bringing a substantial amount of money with you ? ~ you will need it .

Plastering jobs ~ heavy competition from eastern european and turkish workers who will work for pea nuts ~

Sending your child to a english school ~ are you sure you will be able to afford it ~ especially if relying on the wages your husband may bring home ~ sadly you may not find work to suit your requirements.

No disrespect intended but you do indeed seem pretty clueless and need to do much more research before committing to the move across to wonderfully sunny but getting very expensive Cyprus.

I'm not surprised as most of the Turkish plasterers are working in the south and you are left with those wanting to rip you off .

I'm no expert but would have to agree here.
The developers in the south have hoards of Turks working for peanuts on their sites.
