Why do settlers flock to the North?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby garbitsch » Tue Apr 26, 2005 12:37 pm

Still it doesn't make sense. The naturalisation of Turkish settlers into TRNC citizenship is not internationally recognised, and in the case of a settlement in Cyprus, most of them will lose their citizenships and be sent back to Turkey. Will this be the case for the foreigners in south Cyprus? This is my point!

no, because the foreigners in the south recieved citizenship for the legitimate government for the island of Cyprus.

Garbitsch, the 'tale' about settlers exceeding TC came primarily from TC sources...i.e. media, etc.

The first people that told me about settlers outnumbering TC are TC friends of mine.

So the foreigners in North are illegal and they should be removed from the island? The Europe does not even treat its own illegal migrants in such way. Please read some articles about immigration politics in Western Europe. You can find good articles by Christian Joppke and Yasemin Soysal.

Well, whether its personal assumptions or not...first and foremost, if they are tales, its that of Turkish Cypriots....because Greek Cypriots could never know the numbers officially and doubt they would be stupid enough to try and pull a false fact out of the air. The information they got had to come from a Turkish Cypriot source first...and newspapers in the north, like Afrika, have reported this...whether its fact or fiction I dont know. What I do know is, a lot of TC seem to be telling me this...so i'm goinf by what they tell me.

lol

what planet are you living on? Both sides have been waging a relentless propganda war since the very exisstance of Cyprus as an indpendent country. That is a fact. Propaganda is the art of convincing people that what is untrue is true - like convincing you that Makrios gave up the ENOSIS ideal in 1960 or that the UK told Turkey to invade Cyprus in 74 perhaps?

http://www.ntvmsnbc.com/news/320819.asp I can't find an English version of this news, but basicly it is about Hristostimidis accusing Turkey for bringin more settlers to Cyprus. He says there are 150.000 Turkish Settlers living in Cyprus. From where did he get these numbers? Oh, I think he also has some Turkish Cypriot friends and he is a good reader of Afrika!

It seems the settlers are not only folking to the North. I think they flooded all major town of Turkey already causing huge problems and unemployement.
I am not sure anyway. Can someone extend on this?

Does this refer to immigrants who came in to Cyprus and after a while achieved naturalization? Or does it refer to those who were brought in by the government and offered homes for free? Actually were there any of these in the south? I think I read something about Pontian Greeks on this forum but not sure what the deal is with them.

SOmeone, any ideas?
