I am happy when I go shopping because I can easily calculate the amount of ripoff compared to the rest of the EU. 8) :x

The best thing ever for Cyprus apart from joining the EU .
About time we too adopt the Euro in the UK , just look what a rip off it is when changing your Stg to Euros or visa verse, Selling rate of Euros 1.19 to the pound , buying them back 1.39 Euros to the pound , some 20% spread , if your flying with either First Choice , Thomas Cook you are charged 1.69 euros to the pound !!!
Euro is the most powerful and steady currency the world over , think I will change my name to MiltiEuro !!!

I am happy in principle to be using the euro. However, the prices of a great many things are now exactly double what they were in Cyprus pounds, rather than having increased by a factor of 1.71 as they were supposed to. We were told this would not happen, but it has.

Prices have gone, and so have mine. I am happy. The British tourists are the losers and the Ex Pats that live on UK pensions.

You are absolutely right , of course this has to do with greedy shops , supermarkets etc.
I have been coming over to Cyprus almost on a monthly basis , the first time I noticed the increase in prices was a bunch of grapes cost me the equivalent of £5.00 stg. Tea bags are double the UK price , as for Pork that once used to be much cheaper than prices in the UK it no longer is. Food prices in Cyprus are higher than those in the UK , Petrol and Diesel a lot cheaper in Cyprus as well as eating out and of course there is no bloody council Tax . The UK council tax is crippling when you own your property outright but you are still paying a hefty sum every month, its like having a mortgage .
I'm told though that if you shop carefully you can cut down your shopping considerably , my brother who lives in Limassol does all his fruit & veg shopping at the Pazaraki on Saturdays .

I was at the Pazaraki on Saturday. I stopped for a bacon roll at a snack bar there, and discovered that it was run by British people. Brits doing catering in Cyprus! It's a bit ironic isn't it? There was a time when Cypriots were running virtually all the catering establishments in Britain.
