Turkey Opposes To Exclusion Of "accession" Phrase At Ministerial Meeting With Eu In Brussels

BRUSSELS - Turkey opposed Wednesday to the exclusion of the phrase "accession" from Pre-accession Economic Program document at a ministerial meeting with the EU in Brussels.
Turkey, which is represented at the meeting --between EU and the Economy and Finance Ministers of EU Candidate countries-- by Turkish Minister Mehmet Simsek and Turkish Central Bank Governor Durmus Yilmaz noted down its opposition to the exclusion of the phrase "accession" due to insistence of France.
EU rotating President Slovenia announced that it would publish the document rejected by Turkey as "a statement by the term president", and would make emphasis to the word accession in the press release.
Simsek who held a joint press conference with Yilmaz after the meeting said, "what is frustrating for us is the reaction displayed against the phrase `accession` even at these kind of technical meetings."
Simsek said Turkey would never consider options other than full membership and pointed out that he had expressed Turkey`s concerns to EU officials. He said the Pre-accession Economic Program document covering the period between 2008-2010 could not be considered a joint document anymore.
