Thanks for posting this Gab. Fascinating.

I could understand about 80% of it, but I didn't think much of this chap's chastista style. His voice is well past its prime which made understanding some of it difficult. Interestingly I could also hear and understand the chaps off-camera.

Anna Vissi does it really well too!

Yeah but I resurrected the thread tonight because I wanted to know what this other style of singing is called ....

It's called the Oracle verbal diaorrhoea.

I think the flags in the background have triggered another hypomaniac episode for Oracle

Thanx bill.

The old man has passed on since this video. He was the famous Muzzaferi in Louroujina. He has many legendary & humourous stories in the village.

It is not uncommon to hear Greek Cyriot being spoken by Louroujinites of all ages to this day.

Ungrateful sod! ... At least I resurrected your dead thread

But seriously ... I really would like to know if that sort of "yodelling" style of singing has a label like Chatista does ....

You could even go so far as finding Turkish versions and posting them (so unoriginal those Turks .... ).

Does anyone know what the true origins of the Louroujina folks are? Are they muslim converts of Venetian/ Lugisnan Catholics following the 1571 invasion or Turks who settled in Cyprus from Anatolia.
Thanks

Well that's like saying how long is a piece of string ...

Before the Ottomans, there were just Cypriots.

I could understand it all, but I guess most people of my generation would. Perhaps the younger folk might miss some words like "kantounia" etc.
