And so Israel is 60

Everything related to politics in Cyprus and the rest of the world.

Israel is on the edge 24 hours a day. Lot's of young men with guns and yes at times it can feel unreal. It has become a little better since the 80s but tension still exists.
I have recently returned from Taba in Egypt, some 25 miles from the Israeli border.
I stayed in a American owned hotel run by Egyptions. The hotel was full of Jordanians, Egyptions, Iraeli's, Russians and the token Brits.
All very peaceful, no trouble people enjoying their holiday. 30 years ago this was unthinkable.
Again though, security was tight, x-ray at hotel reception, armed guards on buses to and from the airport.

We will never forget the Holocaust because we will never be allowed to. but other holocausts are. the 20 million in russia are forgotten, the Katyn forest dead are forgotten, the pol pot victims are forgotten, the rwandan dead are forgotten. ...the state of israel was founded in blood, not all of it Jewish.. the King david Hotel for instance. and then there was the Hagana.
I do Not Praise Israel, Nor do i decry it. i merely make observations.
Every side has its lunatics and there are many in that region.
Israel has the right to exsist, and Palestine to have its state.
But if only it was that Easy - King Hussein of Jordan managed to walk the tightrope of diplomacy, while Anwar Sadat paid with his life.
No one wants to deal with terrorists but yesterdays freedom fighters would be todays terrorists.
There are jewish settlers in villages built in Palestine but but how we condemn turkish settlers in Northern Cyprus.
No easy Solutions and no easy Answers. fanatics on both sides.
Common sense is the victim these days.

8) i think it is.. Menachim Begin was a freedom fighter for israel. If he did today what he did then he would be labelled a terrorist - just as Yasser Arafat was.

No, Begin was a terrorist, who most Israelis now consider a freedom fighter.
