Tabula rasa (Latin: blank slate) refers to the epistemological thesis that individual human beings are born with no innate or built-in mental content, in a word, "blank", and that their entire resource of knowledge is built up gradually from their experiences and sensory perceptions of the outside world.

Generally proponents of the tabula rasa thesis favor the "nurture" side of the nature versus nurture debate, when it comes to aspects of one's personality, social and emotional behavior, and intelligence.

.... I would have slated Prof. Steven Pinker if that was wrong ....

I would like to revive this thread for a particular reason.

The intention of my posting it in the first place was to possibly raise awareness among members who may not fully appreciate the horrors that are taking place in certain areas of the world we live in.

Due to the initial usual negative intervention of miltiades's response, ALL possibilities of such awareness became virtually obliterated, so myopic is this member's general view on MOST subjects , he was (as usual) quite unable to grasp the significance of that which was graphically described to him (and all others), he was compelled therefore, to launch his usual worthless condemnations of that which he was unable to understand. (How could he, if he understood ANYTHING, it would be a first).

I speak as a person who has SEEN such events, I have dragged a dying comrade to safety and watched him DIE there, I have seen children die of starvation and witnessed much slaughter in my time.

The significance of what my picture portrays , does not lie in the horrors of the scene but in the aftermath of the event which created it.

The young soldier and the Mother became 'Human' for a fleeting moment, the Mother displayed a quality outside of the norm and the soldier KNEW that what he was involved in was WRONG. (one of miltiades's favourite words).

Therefore I would like members to read it again and imagine themselves in the situation described, it may well serve as an eye-opener to those who have never experienced close encounters with such events
