Calling All British Expats!!

Postby noplacelikehome » Thu May 15, 2008 11:32 am

ARE YOU A BRIT LIVING ABROAD BUT THINKING ABOUT COMING HOME TO THE UK?

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS?

ITV1 are making the second series of ‘No Place Like Home?’ about British Ex-Pats who are considering moving back to the UK.

We’re keen to hear from Brits who are living abroad, but who are now thinking about returning permanently to Britain.

Perhaps you miss your family and friends, maybe you are
struggling with the language, or very simply you yearn for a bit of British culture.

However, it’s not an easy decision – what if you make a mistake?

You’ll be flown back to the UK and given the opportunity to ‘test-drive’ the reality of living in the UK.

Relocation expert Catherine Gee will give you the information you need to make an informed decision about whether to remain an expat or come home for good.

If this sounds like you, or anyone you know, please contact Kaaj.

"British culture", what's that? Coming home knackered and watching Eastenders?

Wow!! Have you never left this island then juliesewell? Holidays? You lucky enough to have your family with you here?

I have to return home at least twice a year - more if I can get cheap flights. I miss my family, friends and yes, England too much not to. (I have just come back from the UK and missing my family already!)

There are pros and cons for each island and for now, I am happy to divide my time between the two. :)

England , or rather the UK ain't what it used to be !! I wonder why !
Back in 1961 when I first came to London and fell in love with the city , there were not any traffic wardens to begin with !

Now now Milt, we all know your 'bias' against the good old Traffic Wardens!!

You back in the UK or in Cyprus at the moment - sure you said something about another visit this month?!

Bubbles,

I said we haven't been back to UK since we arrived in March 2004 - not that we haven't left the island :)

We've taken the mini-cruises to Lebanon 3 times (one of those including Syria), also Malta for the last 3yrs for about 5 days or so each time and last year we did 10 nights in Egypt.

The only family we have are y parents, who are still in UK - but they come to Cyprus for a month each November and we go to meet them in Malta when they go there for a month too. We have no other need or desire - to go back for the forseeable future.

Other than my parents, there is nothing in UK that we can't live without and I get so miffed when I hear ex-pats celebrating that Tesco, Sainsburys et al may be coming to Cyprus!

The only thing I can admit to missing out on was a decent Indian takeaway up till about 18 months ago - not such a big deal (my husband makes a mean curry) but that issue is now resolved and we have a very good one in Erimi near the Buccaneer pub

We came here for a change of life and pace. We are not retired, we both work in Cyprus and are enjoying our new life very much. I certainly do not miss the political correctness that appears to have taken over in UK and hope that Cyprus takes a long time to catch up.

We have discussed the possibility that we may not stay forever in Cyprus although it does not feature in any plans for us just yet. But when that time comes, it's more likely we will move elsewhere rather than back to UK.
