What do you suggest we do when it becomes apparent that no diplomatic solution is possible? Do we just maintain the status quo in perpetuity?

We persevere with all diplomatic means at our disposal , the UN , the European Union and the International community.
We will cross that bridge when we come to it .
In the meantime any aggression by Turkey against the ROC must be challenged with all means available the meantime building bridges of trust and bridges of conflict is a far better proposition.
May I also pose the following question to you.
Lets presume that a war is declared against Turkey , do you honestly believe that the end result would be what every Cypriot dreams off ??
I doubt it very much , Turkey will be removed from Cyprus by the pressure put upon her "A " by the T/Cs and "B" by the EU .

One could quite easily admire Adolf Hitler's moustache or Osama bin Laden's beard WITHOUT being an admirer or supporter of the man himself.

If Osama bin Laden is still alive, I admire the fact that he has been able to avoid capture for so long, such wiliness is worthy of respect, George Grivas was famed for it, where is the difference ?.

Wasnt there a film in the 70's called something like 'The High Bright Sun' starring Dirk Bogarde? It touched on the life of George Grivas and his elusiveness. I hope I got the name right!!

Indeed there was such a film, Dirk Bogarde falls in love with an American 'Girl' in the course of his engagement in Cyprus.

If he did manage to find George Grivas (and I am not completely familiar with the outcome) he would probably have found it easier to fall in love with HIM.

Its funny that so few knew of DB' 'secret'.

I think Jeremy Thorpe (along with most of the British Cabinet) knew very well of his particular 'secret'.

Most likely, but I doubt GG would have been interested. Did he ever marry? (GG that is)

George Grivas was known by several 'Nick-names' one of which was 'The Old Fox'.

I do not think he ever married, whether or not his 'Nick-name' provides any indication as to which kind of hole he preferred, is unknown to me.

No disrespect intended in any of the former posts, just trying to introduce a little levity into an increasingly serious topic.

George Grivas was well represented by his peers, God Bless his memory, lest any should be offended.

I do not see much pressure coming from the EU. And as far as diplomacy is concerned, well I do not see Turkey being too concerned. Do you?

Are you willing to accept Turkey maintaining her presence on the island forever? Because very soon you will need to come to terms with this probability.

Please also explain the highlighted part so that I am better equiped to answer this question.

I've put together a basic outlay of how such an operation could come together if interested here...
