One could quite easily admire Adolf Hitler's moustache or Osama bin Laden's beard WITHOUT being an admirer or supporter of the man himself.

If Osama bin Laden is still alive, I admire the fact that he has been able to avoid capture for so long, such wiliness is worthy of respect, George Grivas was famed for it, where is the difference ?.

Wasnt there a film in the 70's called something like 'The High Bright Sun' starring Dirk Bogarde? It touched on the life of George Grivas and his elusiveness. I hope I got the name right!!

As long as there is humanity, the WAR issue will never be dead and buried especially when one's country is under occupation.

When Turkey leaves Cyprus, then WAR will be at last dead and buried but not before.

And no one in their right mind considers WAR as virtuous, but to fight for your country and to potentially make the ultimate sacrifice, is virtuous.

Paphitis , I hope that your not again offering your interpretation of what I posted . Please read my post !!

Indeed there was such a film, Dirk Bogarde falls in love with an American 'Girl' in the course of his engagement in Cyprus.

If he did manage to find George Grivas (and I am not completely familiar with the outcome) he would probably have found it easier to fall in love with HIM.

Spare me the sarcasm. You are the one that incinuates that GR and I are war mongers and promote warfare as a virtue.

I still maintain that Cyprus has the right to use it's military to defend it's lands currently under occupation when the conditions are right and all diplomatic avenues have ceased. Every sovereign country on this planet reserves this right. You take this out of context and try to portray us as war mongers. I pity you and my interpretation of your attitude still stands.

miltiades, if I may be permitted to say so, your analogy (in this particular instance) is a clear indication that you obviously do NOT comprehend the meaning of that which others submit.

Your comparison is quite laughable.

In my humble opinion.

Miltiades, I still would like you to honestly answer this question which you so eargerly avoid.

What do you suggest we do when it becomes apparent that no diplomatic solution is possible? Do we just maintain the status quo in perpetuity?

[quote="miltiades]
Now just hold on a minute Eliko , you either admire Mugabe or some traits of his personality or not. Its like saying I admire Hitler's tenacity in his efforts to wipe out the Jewish people !! This tin pot little vicious dictator has brought terror and death to his own people , he should be hanged by his balls and made to eat his own vomit , he is a ruthless bastard and no one in their right mind should admire any part of his personality.
quote]

miltiades, in an effort to press a point, perhaps we should approach your comments above from an alternative direction.

According to your view, any who can express admiration for 'Tenacity' in another's personality, cannot be in control of their own faculties.

Surely you must realize that such a sweeping observation MUST be indicative of the fact that you encourage the lack of fortitude.

If that be so, why is it that YOU are so often unable to relax the rigity of your OWN stance when confronted by an opinion that is not in tandem with your own ?.

I personally find that quite extraordinary, particularly when that 'Trait' is exposed during a debate, it positively negates the resolution of any subject under discussion.

Perhaps a little flexibility might be a good idea, the laws of 'Equivalence' must be allowed to prevail lest we become oblivious to reason.

In my humble opinion.

I think Jeremy Thorpe (along with most of the British Cabinet) knew very well of his particular 'secret'.
