The Troodos mountains are a fortress of sophisticated SAMs that easily cover the entire island and beyond due to Cyprus' small size. Turkish fighter jets will not be able to take off successfully from Cypriot territory but will have to come from southern Turkey. I haven't even mentioned the hundreds of hand-held Mistrals issued to personnel.

Yes I knows all about the CNG highly mobile and rapidly deployable Air Defence Systems. Air elements (fighters) are still required for air superiority though to ensure that these SAMs are not attacked with fire and forget HARM Air to Ground missiles (AGM-88 High Speed Anti Radiation) which guide themselves onto these SAMs by using their radar signature. HARM is a nightmare of radar controlled SAM installations.

Fighters are imperative otherwise the CNG is extremely vulnerable. The Air Defence structure is also vulnerable to HARM (AGM) attack which the TuAF does have in it's inventory.

Which brings me to my question. I understand that the CNG may lack certain logistics but are there any plans to purchase our own Russian Fighters?

To the best of my knowledge the answer is no. As you’ll already know buying and maintaining fighter jets, as well as pilot training, etc, is one of the most expensive military investments and in our case perhaps overkill.

However, the NG’s goal would be to reach the shores of Kyrenia and thus liberate the relatively small piece of territory under occupation, and hold onto it long enough while the international community, which will have stepped in by then, will make arrangements for necessary treaties.

If Turkey was to then decide to return in full force, even though she would’ve lost the first phase, there will be HUGE international repercussions, as this would constitute a SECOND invasion.

Of course, I haven't included Greece into it at all so far but that's the way I prefer it...

In the present climate, this would be a war which Turkey could not afford to even enter into.

Should the RoC storm the "TRNC" ... it would meet with opposition only from the 40,000 troops and weapons already stationed there ...... Turkey will not be sending reinforcements or back-up. GR! has shown the RoC is amply stocked to re-take the north.

Turkey will breath a sigh of relief, a blessing in disguise ..... the get out clause without loss of face. Turkey cannot contemplate open conflict with the EU ... let alone take over a whole EU country. Turkey will admit defeat, wondering why we took so long to object with force.

The battle has been raging for 34 years and Turkey has been spiritually, morally, and politically defeated with her main objective. Cyprus has become a potato that is too hot to handle. Stolen goods that she can do nothing with. Willing us to surgically remove the cancerous "TRNC" and remove the costly pain and misery of her biggest most recent mistake.

In time the "TRNC" will be another denied atrocity, to be forgotten. Revisionism revisited.

Turkey a little wiser, can re-build its image ... and perhaps acquire a new name!
