As reported in the Cyprus Mail.
any ideas, do you want tourists, forum members seem to say no. Appointing another official to report to the President seems to be the big push, or maybe the American trend of eco tourism may reap rewards.
Basically I think it's down to money, if you haven't got it you don't go on holiday....

I may be wrong but I think many in the tourist industry think tourism is an entitlement.
Therefore it's ok to have miserable staff at the airports
It's ok to have the same old tittle-tattle shops selling moronic chinese junk in every resort
It's ok to run your restaurant by proxy using bulgarian/wherever staff
It's ok to not crack down on noisy exhausts and anti-social driving
It's ok to tip litter on the beach
It's ok to rip tourists off
It's ok to want use the same model that people were using in the 90s and bemoan the toursists who book on the internet and look for the cheapest deal etc.
It's ok to poison dogs and cats.
Whine whine whine...hehe :P anyway - they need to get with the times, really listen to feedback, embrace the internet more, i spoke to one big hotel manager last year and he didn't know about tripadvisor and virtualtourist.

Stop filling the place with concrete, stop trying to sell so much property, most tourists probably feel they've landed in a shabby estate agents.

I used to feel proud of cyprus, now when i hear of colleagues going on holiday there i hide from them when they get back
