I think that if you want to lose the ability to walk for a few weeks and don't mind not being able to scratch that itch underneath the plaster cast then I think it's a wonderful way to occupy your spare time .

Taxi drivers in Cyprus especially in Paphos are a force to be reckoned with and definitely not the sort of person you would want to meet in a dark ally .

At the very least you would get your "meeting Mr & Mrs Jones" hold up card relocated up your backside ~ at the worst you could be walking with the aid of crutches.

I picked up some friends from Larnaca a couple of years ago and as a joke held up a card " meeting Mr Shepard and kids " as my friend is a sheep farmer and has a few goats too I thought it would be a laugh.

After being warned by three or four taxi drivers about taking their living away I ripped up the card and explained to them that I was picking up some of my relatives and the card was actually a joke ~ still had one of them stay with me until my friends arrived and he could see that I recognised them just to make sure I was telling the truth.

With the suspected lack of tourists this year I certainly wouldn't dream of starting up in competition with a service of my own it's far to risky when we had the good times ~ it's going to be brutal now.

What a lot of rubbish Bill talks ...

Do you think this is "ice cream" war country courtesy of Glasgow ...

Plenty of room for hard working reliable sorts that don't act put out by last minute, out of the way requests and such like ....

He Bill is spot on. The same happened to me last year. A guy from the office picked me up, was holding up a card and was spat on at the arrival gate. When he said he was picking up his employer he was told to fuck off.

I've often thought how naive you are about Cyprus and Cyprus life going off some of your previous postings.

As for the reference to the Glasgow ice cream wars Cyprus is much worse but the main difference between the two is you can get some action from the Glasgow police which you wouldn't always get in Cyprus .

I'm sorry but you really need to get out more and savour the real Cyprus and not the one you see through your rose tinted pro Cypriot glasses .

I think the recent rickshaw war in the east of the island is a classic example of how Cypriots don't play fair in business matters

Cyprus is beautiful but utopia it certainly isn't .

good on you.. who do the taxi drivers think they are ,,this is the 21 century last time i looked the mafiosa should wake up & smell the coffee, if there worried about loss of earnings then they should find real jobs instead off constantly needing tourists to feed there egos.

In the Cypriot taxi drivers eyes you are stealing their business ~ cars have been damaged, tyres slashed and people threatened for the very same thing at Paphos airport and these are often people picking up friends and relatives .

As for upsetting the Bus drivers ~ err what bus drivers :? ~ apart from the holiday tour companies buses transferring holidaymakers from the airport to their hotels there is no bus service to and from the airport ~ strangely enough the taxi drivers may have had something to do with that too  .

I have had the dubious pleasure of seeing the taxi drivers exchanging punches at Paphos airport, over a £10 ride. Nice welcome for tourists, makes them feel like they are back in London or the South East.
