GR says RoC can defend itself against Turkey.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

That's a present just for you goofball, written last year especially for ATCA where 50+ Turkish brainless extremists were left scratching their heads that the RoC even had a military...

Gr, of course you have a military and of course you'll fight tooth and nail but realistically the end result is a forgone conclusion.

Stop being silly and start accepting the fact us TCs are rightfully in Cyprus. Start showing us respect. Tell your young ones that we are not Barbaric, we are genetically similar and that we can live in peace side by side. That is the only way forward. Your way is just unacceptable by any sensible person.

I’m afraid it doesn’t work like that…

If and when YOU, the Turkish Cypriots; the remnants of the uninvited Ottomans, start showing respect to the overwhelming indigenous majority of Cyprus; the very people whose ancestors toiled on this land for some 10,000 years, FIRST… then we can look at YOUR request for respect, but NOT before thank you!

With respect Simon you are talking out of your bottom. Turkish fighter planes invade Greek airspace on a daily basis. Not to be aggresive but to monitor Greek response times.
Dog fights are of no interest to the Turkish pilots, they just turn for home and file their information. I have seen no real improvement in the Greek military over the past ten years, apart from more modern equipment. Training is still dated and many of it's military have little stomach for a real fight. In fact they have little stomach for a full blown mock excercise.

Simon wrote:GR, Greece is in a completely different political climate to that in 1974. With the Joint Defence Doctrine, I fully believe that if Cyprus entered into a war with Turkey, Greece would provide support. I believe you would see F-16 jets, Frigates etc with possibly around 30,000 Greek troops.

I'll believe it when I see it Simon but not before...

Should it be necessary ... it's not just the RoC that Turkey will be fighting against .... but the whole of Europe!

So the main reason no one had better start a war is not because the RoC can't win  .... but because it will be the end of the WHOLE of Turkey ..... and believe it or not; not even I want that!

Sorry to disagree Oracle but although ROC is in the EU it doesnt commit its military to ally with NATO so dont expect NATO or EU to rush in anytime soon.. besides equipment and logistics harmonisation would be a nightmare...

You underestimate Greek hardware too much when they've got firepower coming out of their ears... it's their will to use it for Cyprus that I have my reservations over...

Purdey, you accuse me of speaking out of my bottom, when you embarassingly do not know the facts.

Turkey does not recognise it as Greek airspace. Therefore, the assumption of your premise is false. They consider it as international airspace. Greece regards it as its airspace, and hence sends fighter jets to greet the Turkish planes, and usher them away. Greece carries out this task perfectly well.

Turkish and Greek pilots use the dogfights as practical training. Indeed, one Greek pilot accidentally shot down a Turkish jet doing exactly this. I am afraid you do not know what you are talking about.

If you are aware of Greek training, can you please tell me how they train, and how the training they do is dated. Please provide precise details as I am keen to learn whether you actually do know what you are talking about or whether you are merely talking out of your arse!

The Greek military has a history of very much being prepared to fight. It's still being debated today, just how significant the Italian defeat was against the Greeks in WWII; and this was when the Greek military really was dated! Imagine what they are capable of now with state of the art equipment.

8) And of course Turkey is a much more important staging post than Cyprus for the Great American War machine and a foot in the door to the middle east..and the Russian continent if so required.............
You cannot land a B-52 or Globemaster on Larnaca Airport - runway too short - landing fees to high!

I don't disagree regarding their hardware and their willingness to fight if provoked. I just have my reservations about their training and willingness to kill. The Turkish army regulars are trained to kill from week one. Compassion is regarded as a weakness, they are well aware of the Greeks firepower and it's force in numbers but have compensated by upping their numbers and hardware in kind.
I do not think there is an army in Europe or maybe the world that does not hold the Turkish army in high esteem. They are well trained, supplied with the latest weaponry and are willing to die..

I told you this before and I'll tell you again so open your eyes wide...

In the event of a military confrontation between the RoC and Turkey, the ONLY "forgone conclusion" will be the "TRNC" and all of its contents turning into GLASS...

If you think the RoC will accept having to ever again deal with as much as ONE Turkish Cypriot, after such a huge sacrifice of taking on Turkey, you are very short-sighted!

Always remember that the TC community is like the little meat dangling between the buns of a burger...
