GR says RoC can defend itself against Turkey.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Are we allowed to feed the animals in the zoo?

The assumption made by almost every single poster in this thread is based on a single scenario: the RoC National Guard attacking the Turkish forces on Cyprus. A remote probability.

However, there is one more probable scenario: where there is strife between TCs and mainlanders in the north and the National Guard must protect TCs fleeing to the south, in other words the fight is brought to the south and not the other way around. What would those who are set against military power propose in such a situation?

And pigs can fly.

At the moment the opposition to the mainland influence in the north is tame, limited to protests over the renaming of a park, some voices of opposition in newspapers etc. There will be a time when the mainlanders outvote the TCs and then what? Are the TCs going to accept the displacement? Will they protest and how, peacefully or otherwise? And how will the "security forces" react to such protests?

If a solution is not feasible by the end of this year then we can see an increase in the number of T/Cs joining the so far limited opposition to the settlers mainly . The realization that the International community will NOT recognise the "TRNC" knowing fully well that the overwhelming majority of its citizens are not T/Cs but settlers brought in by Turkey specifically aimed at altering the demographics of the area. There are right now voices in the North speaking out loud and stating that the policy of Turkey of forced immigration to the North is an illegal act as per the Geneva convention.

Better the mainlanders to outvote us than the GCs, can you really not see the difference? The only way we can accept your rule is to make it a joint effort between the 2 communities, your out voting is unacceptable but Turkeys is, cant be made any clearer, there is no trust between the 2 communities and therefore safeguards such as political equality are vvital to any solution.

VP there you go again with that terminology of "rule" etc.

I wil put an illustrativie point from my angle- given the choice of having a Turkish CYPRIOT president of Cyprus or a mainland Greek one, I would opt for the TC president. I guess that is the difference between us. It is the non Cypriots I am worried about, for you it is the non Turks.

Yes , but we all know that there will never be a TC President of Cyprus whilst the Greeks can out vote the Turks.
