Abuse victims tell Orkopoulos to 'burn in hell'

THE victims of a former NSW government minister who sexually abused them and gave them drugs have told of the terrible effect he had on their lives.
Former Aboriginal affairs minister Milton Orkopoulos appeared in Newcastle District Court today for a sentencing hearing on 30 child sex and drugs charges.
He was convicted in March of 28 offences after pleading guilty to a further two at the outset of his trial.
One of his victims, who cannot be named, looked Orkopoulos in the eye and told him: "Burn in hell, you grub" as he passed the dock today.
The man, now 20, told the court he had suffered since he was indecently assaulted by Orkopoulos at a national Labor conference in 2004.
"I felt that Milton had exploited me for his own perverted sexual gratification," the man told the court.
"I felt betrayed by the NSW Labor Party for protecting Milton politically," he said.
The first of Orkopoulos's victims, who is now 25, told the court his relationship with the politician had left him with a devastating drug habit.
His statement, read by his mother, detailed his isolation, fear, anger and confusion about his sexual relationship with Orkopoulos, which began when he was 15.
Orkopoulos had introduced him to heroin and he was soon doing anything he could to feed his drug habit.
He had prostituted himself and lost all his friends, who saw him as just a "hopeless junkie".
