What is the breakdown of the Greek word for rose water.
'trianta' sounds like 'thirty', but what does 'fillon/phyllon mean. In biology it would mean a branch (phylum), is it the same word?
Language on this forum is one of the best informative sites. Come on you teachers.
Phyllo (φύλλο) means leaf/petal
I would agree that triantafillo = 30 leaves
But Deniz has erroneously jumped to phylum which is the next major Biological division after Kingdom.
I always assumed it was some Latin for branch, (due to ending in -um). So I've just looked up the etymology; and phylum is from the Greek "phylon" meaning a tribe or clan. (Which I suppose connects with "friend" also .... assuming your friends came from your tribe )
Oracle dear, I at least am trying to get to grips with a language which is not my first language. I am delighted that you are getting to grips with your own. Very noble of you to admit your own frailties. Very educating isnt it?
