Is the ROC doing enough to gain the trust of T/Cs

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Is the ROC doing enough to gain the trust of T/Cs

Postby miltiades » Tue May 06, 2008 8:02 am

I for one believes that not enough is been done by the ROC to gain the respect and the trust of the T/Cs.
Certainly , most people would agree , the onus is on the ROC to take genuine steps to bring home to our T/C compatriots that their future lies in a united Cyprus with them playing an active role in the promotion of Cyprus and in the introduction of new "stealth "thinking in dealing with the thorny problem of Greek and Turkish interference in Cyprus's internal affairs.
The constant exhibition of Greek and Turkish flags renders Cyprus to the charge that it does not exist on its own merit , that the Cypriots are not the landlords but mere tenants on their own land.
Particularly disturbing is the continuation of the Greek national anthem , on one hand we tell the world we are an independent nation and on the other we continue with contradictory gestures and symbols. .

8) A quite astute post Miltiades, and i can see a lot of sense in what you say...but as you are more than aware putting your head above the parapet on this subject gets you shot at by both sides...perhaps you should change your name to turtle dove!

This is the kind of foolish attitude that gives the TC community the false notion that they are a victimized people that must now be paid compensation or something, but in reality NOTHING could be further from the truth.

The TC community’s constant disrespect of this island and its indigenous majority is at the VERY CRUX of the Cyprus problem, so the correct question being asked should be…

“Is the TC community doing enough to prove that they have regretted the past and are now ready to embrace a modern democratic European way of life as Cypriots, or are their minds still living in the 50’s and 60s and hell-bent on proving that they were never Cypriots to begin with and hence their persistence with Turkey's games...”

..... Miltiades, out of respect to our compatriots, shouldn't that be the "ROC".

I thought that we wanted UNIFICATION. !! Along the lines you are suggesting they will never agree to it. I'm not capitulating to Turkey but neither do I bury my head in the sand.
The International community , actively lobbied by the ROC recognises that the occupied part is an integral part of Cyprus , as indeed it is , does it not therefore necessitate that we treat the T/Cs as an integral part of Cyprus and treat them as such , after all there are more than 40 thousand T/C holders of the ROC passport. The ROC passport has as official languages Greek , Turkish and English , it does not state anywhere that our National identity is either Greek or Turkish, and yet the very authority that issues passports ie the ROC has as its national anthem the Greek one !!
What message is it sending to the T/Cs , the very people that IT says it represents , yes it does , since it is the only recognised and legal entity in Cyprus .
