The People’s Party in occupied northern Cyprus has claimed that the break - away state is suffering from a staggering 25% unemployment rate among young people, with the figure being even higher in rural areas.
Rasit Pertev, who is the former advisor to the Turkish Cypriot leader, said his party were undertaking visits to villages and districts throughout the occupied areas on a daily bases checking the jobless situation.
Pertev dismissed figures provided by the northern Cyprus Planning Department, stating that “statistical reviews showed a current unemployment rate of just above 10%.”
He added the ruling Republican Turkish Party (CTP) had deliberately briefed their own supporters to create an image that there was very little problem with unemployment in the occupied areas.
