Wills in Cyprus

Postby tinylittle-cat » Mon May 05, 2008 1:09 pm

Hi, we are currently having a house built and have found the forum very helpful so thanks for that :D Are there any other forums which give good advice on the house side of things?

My next question (which may be one of many over the next few months....) is that we have been advised to get a will done in Cyprus. Can anyone advise of expected cost to pay and any recommended lawyers in the Paphos area?

We are out there in 5 wks so plan to sort it then,
Many thanks

Hi TLC,

I run a 'Cyprus Property Forum' (free areas only) that you can reach from my website - just click on the 'WWW' button below this message - or Google my name.

And also on my website you'll find information about Wills (in the 'Essential Legal Advice' section).

I asked our Cyprus lawyer about adding our property to a will drawn up in UK. She said that no extra will was needed, just get the UK lawyer to include it in the British will, it would be legally binding in Cyprus as would all other parts of the will. This is of course the legal Cyprus, not the northern part.

Actually I was told quite the opposite

I think the reasoning was due to equal recognition for surviving children and / or spouse in Cyprus for which there are no pre-set Laws in the UK.

I guess you could draw it up in the UK and have it legalised at the Cyprus Embassy like they do for other documents :?
