A man believed to be one of Australia's worst serial sex offenders has admitted responsibility for 86 sexual offences.
John Xydias, 44, of Glen Iris in Melbourne's east, has pleaded guilty to one count of rape in the Victorian Supreme Court.
His lawyer Remy van de Wiel QC indicated he would plead guilty to a further 85 charges of rape and indecent assault.
When asked by judge Justice Philip Cummins' associate how he pleaded on one of the counts, Xydias replied "guilty".
Mr van de Wiel then told the court his client intended to plead guilty to a further 85 charges.
The alleged offences date from 1996 to 2006 and involve attacks on 11 women - four of whom have not yet been identified.
They allegedly include 25 counts of rape and 61 counts of indecent assault.
Justice Cummins ordered Xydias reappear in the same court in July for a two-day pre-sentence hearing.
Last month, a summary of charges tabled in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court, said police arrested Xydias after they became aware of a hidden camera operating in the wall of a change room at a Richmond restaurant in March last year.
They searched Xydias' Glen Iris home and his holiday house at Dromana on the Mornington Peninsula where they allegedly found 17 video tapes, women's underwear and cameras.
Police alleged the tapes showed Xydias raping and indecently assaulting unconscious women after he had lured them back to one of his two premises.
The charges alleged the former chef met the women at nightclubs around Melbourne and on some occasions had been introduced to them by a friend.
Police alleged Xydias would videotape his assaults after rendering his victims unconscious through a combination of drugs, including knock-out drug Rohypnol, and alcohol.
One woman he had lured to his Dromana home had been so heavily drugged that assaults continued over a two-day period and when she woke from her induced state she thought she had been asleep overnight, the police charge sheet said.
Police say they have shown the videos to each of the victims and every one of them have felt disgusted and violated.
"After seeing the videos, the victim became extremely emotional and became a physical and emotional wreck," the police said of one woman.
They said another felt so betrayed that she could no longer trust anyone, even her own family.
