If and when that time comes, my ONLY wish is that YOU and all the other diaspora "tough guys", and particularly the ATCA protagonist clowns, be RIGHT HERE IN CYPRUS when the fireworks show begins... that’s all I ask for Eric. Is that too much?

If and when GR?

"if" means "maybe" and "when" mean "definitely"

BTW, what happened? Only last night you always claimed "when", where the hell did the "if" come from all of a sudden?

So which is it now?

"If"?

or

"when"?

In your "personal experience" of course.

You should learn to respect and start using the "if and when" because it allows for the possibility of either option yet to be determined. Trust unkie GR... 8)

If anybody is still interested, here is a translation of the news item from Kibris newspaper. I have used place names as they are spellt on the official English-language map of Cyprus prepared by the Department of Lands and Surveys.

Original story:

http://www.kibrisgazetesi.com/index.php ... c_Haberler

Translation:

Two Greek Cypriots who wrote “ELLAES” (Greece) on village signs, walls, bus stops and roads in Rizokarpaso were arrested by the TRNC police.
It was announced that SIGMA TV producers Demetrios Georgiou (Male-28) and Georgios Vanezos (male-26), who entered the TRNC at around 10.00 yesterday morning by means of the Pergamos crossing point in the private vehicle with the registration number KAT 516, spraypainted slogans everywhere they could find on their return from their visit to Rizokarpaso village.
According to a statement made by the Police Press Corps, Demetrios Georgiou (Male-28) and Georgios Vanezos (male-26), who entered the TRNC at around 10.00 yesterday morning by means of the Pergamos crossing point in the private vehicle with the registration number KAT 516, on their return to South Cyprus following a visit to Rizokarpaso, caused wilful damage and defacement by spraying, between the hours of 15.30-16.30, “ELLAES” (Greece) in black and in large Greek letters in two places on the asphalt road on the main Rizokarpaso-Yialousa road, on the rear of the village sign at the entry to Leonarisso village, on a snack bar belonging to Koma tou Yialou resident Turgay Erzurumlu on the main Koma tou Yialou-Ayios Theodhoros road, and inside the bus stop at the Ayios Theodhoros-Galatia village junction.
The said arrested persons have confessed to their crimes and the vehicle along with the paint they were using has been retained as evidence.
It has been stated that the police are continuing their investigation into the event.
The Greek Cypriot accused are expected to appear today at Famagusta District Court.

As to "What for?", in my opinion, a genuine prospect for reunification will also be marked by desperate attempts by partitionists on both sides of the divide to mount acts of provocation in the hope of derailing the peace process. This will also be accompanied by attempts to spread disinformation. I would like to see independent confirmation of this story before accepting it at face value, although if it turns out to be true, then it can only be described as a pretty pathetic attempt to provoke a nationalistic response.

Tim ,
Have u read today Kıbrıs newspaper ?
İf it wasn't true , why their pictures are on the papers and why their families are attended at their court hearing .
what do you mean by independent confirmation ? do you think media men like these ones can give right information ?
One of them was doing his training at sigma TV also he has found drunk too .pls read the today papers and do your comments .Have you seen any news at GC's news papers today .Tell us what they were writing about it.
As i said before it was provokative attempt , no question for it .most of this channel broadcasting is always provokative .

I don't know what the big news is here for couple of graffiti artist doing their stuff by writing "Greece" on objects in the "TRNC". They should be made to clean all that stuff with their tooth brush as their punishment. The same also goes for the flags on the "Graffiti Mountain" which one of the flag's spells "Turkey". This is your classic case of tit for tat.

"It has been stated that the police are continuing their investigation into the event. "

Got to admit, there is a funny side to all this. How much forensic analysis does it take to figure out that two people were painting slogans? Are they going to be sending paint scrapings to the FBI labs in the States?

I see that they were ordered by the court to pay 1,875 new Turkish lira by way of compensation for the damage they caused. This is the equivalent of about 950 euro and it does seem a tad steep for wiping off five instances of graffiti. Also the report says that they were using black paint and they spraypainted onto an asphalt road twice. Black graffiti on black asphalt - how does that work?

The court apparently accepted their lawyer's defence that their acts were not premeditated, and they started spraying this graffiti after having drunk a lot of beer. Basically, they were required to pay compensation for the damage they caused, sign an undertaking to pay a fine of 2000 new Turkish lira each if they repeat the offence, the one who was driving was also fined for being over the limit, and then they were released.

One powerful argument that no premeditation was involved, it seems to me, was the colour of the paint. Had these two men travelled to Karpasia with the express intent of committing this act, I am sure they would have taken blue paint with them!

The material damage done here was limited, but what about the moral damage? One starts to ask whether the dream of Enosis is indeed dead.
