Valid question that has been bothering me for the year or so I have been following the forum. Strange that the most fixated are those that did not live the events they cite as a reason for their fixation.

Shah above has for the umpteenth time mentioned that the GCs want to rule and dominate the whole island etc. But where does this conviction come from? There is not a single GC politician who has said anything like this. Even in the days when Enosis was in the fore there was never any talk of dominating anyone. Sure there was disregard for the TCs but that is not a desire to dominate or rule etc. Enosis breathed its last in 1968, except in the mind of Denktash and his people who managed to actually achieve it for the north. Since 1974 the only thing we hear from GC, and Greek, politicians like a mantra is BBF. But Shah and co have found an exclusive source of information that tells them that despite the acceptance that BBF is the only way out, there is a secret plan to "rule over", "dominate" the TCs and force them to "obey".

Tell us then what this source is so we can check it out too.

Now this is obviously nonsense. To this day the RoC applies the law that decrees that Cyprus has two official languages and has Turkish versions of all official documents and has even put Turkish on Cyprus Euro coins.

If some GCs have the idea that all TCs spoke Greek then they have not met many TCs as I have. I know some TCs who spoke only Greek as their first language, some who speak Greek very well as their secong language, and some who speak only Turkish.

What I did say and insist on it because I have inside knowledge is that both communities had their own education systems, both under the British and later after 1960 in the speical structure of the education ministry. There was never any attempt to force the Greek language on TCs. It is nonsense to imply that this ever happened. It is also nonsense to say it can happen in the future or that anyone expects it to happen in the form of having Greek as the only official language.

Is it possible that you confused this with Greek being one of the official languages of the EU? If and when we get a solution in Cyprus, Turkish will then become an official language I assume.
