When some time back I jovially mentioned that my then 3 year old granddaughter , she is 4 now , called me Pappou Krasi , this guy started calling me Pappou skata !! Can you imagine the low level of insults when it specifically targets what we in Cyprus consider sacrilege , our families but much more our relation with our precious grandchildren , to mock an innocent assertion with such crude descriptive terms was immature and stupid to say the least. I took offence and asked for his apologies , that was a year ago , I'm still waiting , just as I'm still waiting for you Oracle to apologise for the absurd comparison you made of Eric and I !!!

This should refresh your memory as to the why...

As if you care...

You were "merely" trying to capitalize on what your incompetent brain thought was an opportunity... :?

Learn you limitations Oracle; you’re a great entertainer for the feeble minded in light-hearted mind games and banter, but that’s where the buck stops.

..... is this post of yours an example of such "capitalising" ? ..... or do I merely entertain your feeble mind?

Oracle , I couldn't help but notice that there exists between you and Eric a strange kind of a rapport ! Given that you hate Turks and that he abhors all things Greek or Greek Cypriot it strikes me that you are two of a kind ! If Eric was a G/C and you were a T/C you are more than likely to have endorsed his extreme and hateful views . You are , up to a certain level his opposite number , difference is that your highly educated and he ain't !!
As far as GR is concerned , I suggest to him that drops his war mongering ambitions and embarks on the road of reconciliation and unification of our island. None of us have any right to harbour destructive ambitions in order to find a solution for our Cyprus and its people. A war against Turkey would be the ultimate catastrophy not only for Cyprus but for Greece too , given that Greece intervenes tha is. Those that consider the future of this island can see that only negotiations and more negotiations will produce the desired result.
The likes of Eric NEVER frustrate my views BECAUSE I know hundreds of T/Cs and none nurture his spiteful and poisonous views which are after all the views of the extremists , shared by T/Cs and G/Cs that caused the conflict between our people.
How many G/Cs would live next door to Eric , and how many T/Cs next to Oracle or GR for that matter !!!

Miltiades, if you want to be accurate and not send the wrong messages at the same time, a war between Greece and Turkey will bring no winner and will be catastrophic for both countries! If you take a look at the war making inventories of both countries, they are at par on all levels. The larger number of Turkish ground troops is offset by the larger size of the country and the need to protect other fronts on its rear end, plus that Greece has a slight technological advantage and a much better air-defense system!

Kifeas I did not infer that a war against Turkey by Greece would be catastrophic only for Cyprus and Greece. Nevertheless , the destruction and the loss of life would be too great and no amount of destruction on Turkey could compensate the loss of even one Cypriot. Should such a catastrophic event was ever to take place the consequences would be too horrific to contemplate. There will be no winners but only losers , who loses more is of no relevance the stark reality is that thousands would perish and nothing would be achieved. Turkey will move her troops out of Cyprus when the T/Cs demand their withdrawal and when EU membership that she desperately wants and imperatively needs demand that she does. Even then security issues must be addressed both for the G/Cs and the T/Cs. We have amongst us , just as they have amongst them , parasites ready to spread their infectious deceases.
Im totally against a war that would most certainly solve absolutely nothing and it would cause enormous suffering to all of our people , the G/Cs , T/Cs Armenians Maronites and those newcomers from Eastern Europe not forgetting the thousands of British living in Cyprus and contributing to the economy. Our T/C compatriots must move away from the 60s , ENOSIS , EOKA, GENOCIDES , Propaganda designed to justify and legalise the occupation of part of our nation. We must also realize that this island is not our exclusive property to do as we wish. The fears and concerns of the T/Cs must be appreciated and addressed .
It is inconceivable that a European Member nation would embark on a discriminatory agenda in light of the legal restrains that are in place as a result of the EU .

Good post but unfortunately our concerns are not valid according to people like Kifeas and Piratis who appear to represent the majority of GCs.

Bilako, I suggest you know nothing about 1974, and you just throw slogans that you heard from those aiming to brainwash you in believing about the superiority of the Turkish "nation" and its armed forces! It has probably never occurred to you that Greece did not actually get involved in the 1974 "war," due to having been taken by surprise and then been obstructed by the US; neither of course it occurred to you that Turkey had invaded a country 100 times smaller than itself, with a completely disorganized National Guard and other civil forces, as a result of the coup d' etat and the on going civil war among GCs at the time of the invasion! It has also never occurred to you that in spite of all the above, Turkey did sustain some heavy losses, including the loss of 16 of its fighter jets!

You cannot sell this to anyone Kifeas 11 years of preparation is enough to set up an army that can and did fight back, the heavy losses of Turkish soldiers and fighter planes are testament to this fact. Its your arrogance that fuels the desire for one to say Turkey would whip your arse every time and you never learn but reality says with war their will only be death and destruction which no one but confident extremists like yourself want and are preparing for even as post on this forum.

VP, you are right about the 11 years of preparation not to allow an already been plotted since before 1960 Turkish invasion! It is true that these 11 years of preparation went so deep that had most of the fortifications been manned on time, and most of the contingency plans on all the various scenarios had been implemented in practice, Turkey would have never been able to land a soldier in Cyprus! However, as I have already explained to you, the situation that had emerged as a result of the coup and the civil war between the GCs and the overtaken by the Greek junta NG (army,) did not allow any of these defensive plans to be put in motion, and most of the fortifications to be manned on time! As a result, the entire defensive system collapsed, making the invasion by Turkey -a country 100 times bigger than us, to become a "successful story!"

You are free to believe and eat any garbage they would like to feed you in the north, about the “glory” of the Turkish armed forces and the “heroic” fighting the mehmetcik have put up with! We know that nothing of all these is further from the truth about 1974! Turkish troops had not been engaged on the 5th mile in Kyrenia, but only 1.5 hours after they started landing at 8:15 am of the July the 20th, and this by only one battalion of poorly armed reservists, whose actual armament was mostly removed and taken in the possession of the coupists during the previous days. By that time it was too late, as the Turkish troops on the ground numbered about 1 contingent of marines that had managed to take positions around the area of the landing spot! All the forces that were assigned to move to Kyrenia and take positions in manning all the fortifications, were kept “busy” in Nicosia and other far away places, guarding the coupists, instead of having been moved to their defense positions from the previous night. As a result of them been mobilized in the morning of the invasion and under day light conditions, most of them were attacked and neutralized on route by the Turkish air force! Whatever resistance shown against the Turkish invading forces was both late coming and at substantially inferior numbers than it could have possibly been, had the coup did not completely disorganize the army and the country as a whole! Even so, it is true that the Turkish army did face a lot of difficulties and did sustain some heavy losses!

This is the plain truth about 1974, which is why we rightfully mark the 15th of July as a day of ultimate treason for both the attempt to overthrow democracy and the fact that it paved the way for the planned Turkish invasion to attain a successful outcome!
