THE FOOD THREAD

Postby umit07 » Sun Apr 27, 2008 8:11 pm

This thread is intended primarily for Cypriot food. NO POLITICS here please. All about food and nothing else. Feel free to ask questions about any Cypriot dish or just admire the work of art on the plate.

Ah carob (or deratchia in the gr) ! You either love it or hate it and I am one of those sick people who love crunching away on the pods. I think I'm going to plant one or two of these trees on my little bit of Cy when I am next over.

Ceviz (walnut) Macun (Ghliko karidhaki)
fresh ,green baby walnuts (CEVİZ) before the shell hardens are used to make macun.Due to its hight content of protein , fat , minerals and vitamins , walnut is nourishing to human body .it protects the body against tooth and bone diseases , heals gum and mouth ulcers and provides high energy .

Ekmek Kadayifi with icecream!!!! I have heard when making it, you put hot syrup on the cold bread OR cold syrup on hot bread - which is best?

Umit, without having to go into too much detail, what part of Cyprus is your grandmother from? I have never seen or heard this dish. I just know that Koulourikia/Gulurikya means a Zero/O ring/nought etc.
We did have many carob trees, so we cant say they have it where it grows, otherwise I would have come across it.
