Mate I don't really get what you are asking? There are people from Turkey on the island who live here and have small businesses. The fact is that most people from Turkey are workers . If you look at the big business men there are only a few Turks ( as in from Turkey ) do big business here , a few have some big hotels and the both GSM companies are Turkish owned but that just about sums it up. Nearly all businesses are TC owned but all employ many people from Turkey since they work for shit money.

lol... That's funny. We have the same problem here in Southern Cyprus, many Russians, Eastern Europeans work for peanuts to some GC businessman who exploits the hell out of them. It's a disgrace. The people from Greece in Cyprus do not work for sh*t money. They speak very good formal Greek meaning that people are more inclined to hire them.

Sega there isn't a big difference between the average income in Greece and Cyprus but between Northern Cyprus and Turkey there is a big difference. The minimum wage here is nearly 3 times of what it is in Turkey and still many people work for less than that. But even for TC's the private sector usually does not pay well, everyone wants to get into a gov. job but that requires having connections.

And that Umit maybe the real root cause of the Cyprus problem. At some point in the future we might have a reverse situation, when the private sector pays so well no one will want to work for the government, and the government will have to start schemes to attract people. And then there will be no Cyprus problem.

Tim - I read your comment with interest and note your job title. Are you in any way a fitness instructor. I am qualified myself and have a property in Frenaros. I am now seriously thinking about moving out there permanently but will need something to keep me occupied as I am a little hyper and could not be doing with sitting around. I am in the process of collating a business plan and ideally (if you are a self employed fitness instructor) I would greatly appreciate some input.

lol... same here.

Half-government companis pay well, government pays better than everybody though. Like you said, working for the government needs connections. I have connections, but not in the government. To be honest I don't want to work in government. There all a bunch of laizy swines who steel money from hard working tax payers.

Solely private companies pay sh*t, and nobody should ever have to work for peanuts.

I guess if we ever where to mix there would not be much things to get used to.

Can you answer these questions please?

1. Whats the minimum wage in the TC side?
2. Does anybody abide by these minimum wages? or is it like Southern Cyprus were some laws depending on your place of residence are optional.
3. How many foreign workers are there over there?

1. Min wage is about 350 CYP a month ( in public service the min. wage is about 600 CYP )

2. The min. wage is low so they all abide .

3. Foreign workers, I'd say about 50-60k mostly working in sectors to do with costruction.

I'd say at least one third of the population get income from working in a gov. or semi-gov job.

On paper everyone may seem to be quite poor but a lot of people have more than one source of income.

You know, things are very similar here.
