Never been to Lapithos, the Lemons village. I've always liked the name - such an attractive name that befits what looks like a very attractive village. It's near the north coast about ten miles west of Kyrenia between the northern mountain range and the coast. A "cool and green" village.
There's evidence of human settlement here for some three thousand years. The ancient philosopher Alexander of Ephesus referred to its name as Imeroessa. Gosh - some people have roots that go a long way back, don't we?
Pre the Turkish Invasion of 1974 it had population of just over 3,000 people of who some three hundred were members of the minority community.
Bombed from the sea and air during the invasion, ninety-one villagers were killed or are "missing" (may the victims of both communities rest in peace).
Here are some pictures.
Bill cobbet ,
Funy part of the Cyprus is one side claims occupation and other part claim freedom .
at above post u are saying Lapitos (Lapta) is under the occupation .Did you asked yourself IF Turkish Cypriots were living in Lapitos (Lapta)
Turkish Cypriots were living in Lapitos Bill ...They were forced to left their homes in^63-64 and they came to settle down in Villages called Agirda and Bo?az . Up to 74 they lived in those villages .
For them after 74 ,what it is ? Occupation or freedom ?
?n Cyprus we must always think otherside of the coin as well .
for oneside it is called occupation but for others freedom or return back to his own land . look what a funny sutiation .
It might be better if we say once up on a time GC's and TC's were living together in this place because of 63 and 74 troubles .......... ..........................................................................
There's no "funny" side to the CY Tragedy Halil, there's only ever been and always will be tragedy. We are all to a greater or lesser extent victims of CY's darker side. Too many of both communities ( I do not use or like the word that halil uses "sides") paid the ultimate price.
I do not claim that the Occupired village of Lapithos was an exclusively gr village in my post. If you read my post you will see reference to three hundred inhabitants of the other community.
As to matters of "occupation" or "freedom"? Well the rest of the world and I say Occupation. Halil and the other Propagandists will always fail to convince the rest of the world that "freedom" is compatible with a military force of 40-50,000 Turkish soldeirs camped in barracks in every single Occupied Village and the presence of 100-150,000 Settlers who have swamped the northern community.
So, if there is a "funny" side - it is Halil's interpretation that many will find "funny".
(PS - Any chance of the Apologists for the Occupation Regime and for the Turkish Army stop trying to disrupt this thread with their Propaganda ?
Elle Presidentess, can you give them a damned good whipping please)

Yes, Halil, you are perfectly right! Since I come from Lapithos my self, I must confirm that the TCs were forced to live, in 1964! Do you also happen to know by whom they were forced to live? Let me tell you, Halil parrot! They were forced to live by the TMT!!! All 400 of them! Some of them were moved to Temblos, some of them in Agyrta or kionelli, but all of them were coming back every week to look after their citrus yards and other businesses! And do not cross me on this, because I plan to ridicule and shock you further!

It is true some of them were caming to collect their lemons in village before 74 ... Like Mustafa and Ahmet brothers ... Also they were bringing some TC's workers to collect your lemons as well .
Mustafa and Ahmet brothers lived 11 years in barracs in Boğaz village .... one of my cousins married their sister . they were in London ... now they returned back and build up their own house in Lapta too .
