I want to own a Village .....

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Nikitas » Wed Apr 23, 2008 10:38 pm

Umit,

Thank you for the pics, they bring back memories. My father had a job which invilved travel to every nook and cranny of the Famagusta district and often I went with him. So I know the district pretty well.

I can claim to have swam in every beach between Famagusta and Apostolos Andreas, including many dips in Ayios Filonas.

Humanist,

The building will stop when Fmagusta comes on line. It must draw a great deal of purchasing power from all these so called developments. Hopefully it will happen soon and save some of the land for agriculture. The way we are going there will not be any land left in a few years time.

One of my favorite beaches in Cyprus is the one in Bafra ( don't know the Greek name ) it's just under the village of Galatya. I can say the worst beach I've been to is in Larnaca on along the long strip of buildings , it really was crap but full of tourists.

Nikitas are you a Civil Engineer by any chance you seem to be stuck on Varosha. What makes it so special to any other place on the island? I know that is was very developed for it's time and that the hotels there were huge, but why only there?

Interesting question. :?

Where else in the World are villages owned by a certain community?

An anachronism from our legacy with our Colonial past?

Certainly an apartheid that tess is comfortable with. Anybody else?

Is one member's thoughtless comment worthy of a dedicated CyProb thread? I guess only if you're as thoughtless as they are...

How dare to talk to Oracle in that tone?

Nice to hear that no concrete has been poured over Karpasia yet. Give it time and it will get there too. In CYprus if you stand still long enough you are in danger of being cemented over in the rush to "develop" the place.

Nikitas "yet" is the key word there. When I was there October last year there was a lot building activity not far from a turn off that would go right to Varosi town. Just on the left. Infact in one place and I do apologise for not knowing the names of the villages, there was some multistory building taking place. Rizokarpaso and Yalousa appear to be untouched. If the Turks move out I would love to by a small plot of land and retire there some day. The earth felt so homely for me.

Don't speak too soon Andrea, my grandfathers village is Yialousa and the last I heard from one of my (and I am ashamed to say it) miserable family members who went over was that the family home was demolished and some ##@@£$# person was building a villa on MY, yes MY F inheritance.

And then you have the likes of that Bananaidiot supporting these people, jesus christ, where do these people hide their faces???

Andrea I have land in that area, IF, and it is a F big IF, we are ever lucky enough to get it back, I will sort you out mate.
