I want to own a Village .....

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby purdey » Wed Apr 23, 2008 7:47 pm

You forget Phoenix, I grew up in Cyprus, but for a two week period I never left the island for fourteen years. My parents have lived in Cyprus for 67 years full time. No trips back to blighty when the going got tough. OK Cypriot blood does not run through my veins but it is not of pure English either.
Hey ho we are all different, and raiseing uncomfortable issues is what the forum is all about.

Had you Greeks and GCs kept your word and honoured your signature on the
1960 agreements you GCs and us TCs would not be where we are today but we would be living side by side in an independent Cyprus Republic. But your greed and stupidity led us to where we are and here you are after half a century still crying crocodile tears and still being stupid in your wish to be the sole rulers of the whole island.

And stop blaming it on the "colonialists", you have only yourselves and your desire for ENOSIS for your own doings.

The simple fact is that you wanted ENOSIS and didn't give a damn about our wishes and tried to genocide us TCs when we didn't let you turn us in to "Muslim Greeks".

You wanted to give us TCs nothing, we are not as greedy as you are and have left you 2 thirds of the island.

Isn't it time you created another sock-puppet BTW? I mean, you're nearly at 40 postings a day already.

Dunno about villages but I have always wanted to own a tiny, tiny Greek island, preferably one in the Pacific, the other side of the world from Turkish expansionism.

Interesting idea, buying a village. If I could afford it, I would buy Ayia Triada, the Holy Trinity, and restore it to what it was in the 60s. By the way, Ayia Triada is in Karpasia and no doubt now has one of those Koy names which misses the whole history of the place and how it came to be. No, I do not come from there. I do not miss my ancestral village despite its orange groves and riches. I prefer the fishing village air of Ayia Triada.

WHere are you originally from Nikitas? Karpaz is the last unspoilt area on the island. I spent the weekend in Risokarpas a few weeks ago and it was really special not seeing any concrete everywhere. Getting woken up by church bells on a Sunday morning was also weird ( in a good way ) .

Umit,

I was born in Nicosia, inside the walls, but grew up in Famagusta, so all my friends and sense of community is from there. The family roots are in the Morphou area.

Ayia Triada was the a hamlet back in the 60s and we would stop there for a break on the "long journey" to Apostolos Andreas. It is probably the closest thing in Cyprus to a true Mediterranean place.

Nice to hear that no concrete has been poured over Karpasia yet. Give it time and it will get there too. In CYprus if you stand still long enough you are in danger of being cemented over in the rush to "develop" the place.

Oh do stop going on purdey ...

It does not matter about your blood or background or length of stay ... just respect the RoC and live and let live ......

It's so dated to be hang-up about these things. :D

Nikitas "yet" is the key word there. When I was there October last year there was a lot building activity not far from a turn off that would go right to Varosi town. Just on the left. Infact in one place and I do apologise for not knowing the names of the villages, there was some multistory building taking place. Rizokarpaso and Yalousa appear to be untouched. If the Turks move out I would love to by a small plot of land and retire there some day. The earth felt so homely for me.
