Title-deeds for the occupied Greek Cypriot properties

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

While I appreciate the regime is illegal, is it illegal to purchase an item from the legitimate owner? The fact that it is an illegal regime should not criminalise the vendor/purchaser surely?

The intents of the owner (seller) and buyer to make such a transaction are not illegal! The act itself to commit the transaction, without registering it with the RoC land registry and also pay the relevant transaction or “transfer of ownership” taxes, is illegal, since the laws of the RoC are still valid in the north, regardless of the fact that the area is under illegal foreign occupation.

How can "RoC" laws be valid in the TRNC, you cannot impose or conduct them so that makes them invalid.

The legality issue is secondary to the gold rush that has been going on in the north, obviously orchestrated by some people who have the right contacts.

The same gang have robbed churches of 20 000 icons and sold them overseas, looted houses and exported the stolen bits to Turkey as building material and a whole bunch of other acts of pillage. When property is sold by such people the whole enterprise, from the acquisition of the land, to the fraudulent advertising, the non issue of "title deeds", the non connection to public service grids forms part and parcel of the same process: theft.

Considering that this process is going on under the protection of the TRNC authorities after the ECHR has ruled that the original owners retain title is conspiracy to commit fraud. A conspiracy by the authorities and the "developer" against the buyers.

It is no accident that foreign governments have issued warnings to their citizesn. They did this primarily to safeguard themselves from charges of connivance in the fraud. Because the time will come when a foreign buyer will sue the authorities of TRNC seeking damages for fraud.

That's a great link Jerry which also provides a formal answer to some people who in the past, questioned the RoC's authority to declare ports in the occupied territory closed.

Why can't I fly direct to the 'TRNC'?

It is not possible to fly direct to northern Cyprus. Under the terms of the Chicago Convention on Civil Aviation, flights can only operate legally to the international airports designated by the Republic of Cyprus. There are no such airports in northern Cyprus. Under these circumstances, the approval of direct flights by any airline from the UK to northern Cyprus would be incompatible with the UK's international obligations under the Chicago Convention, and with UK domestic legal obligations.

it is possible, it may not be legal. just think about the global warming caused by aircraft taking and off and landing twice. none of us benefit from that.

Ban all transit stops I say! There's no reason why aircraft can't fly around the globe a couple of dozen times non-stop! 8)

"Viewpoint" :
Rafella, the hate and mistrust chain will continue to hold strong as long as no bold steps are taken to break out of this syndrome. - ...and what have you done to break out this syndrom apart from the fact that you perform and support illegalities? What have you done to show your goodwill towards the Gcs? ...by claiming that the occupied area belongs to you? ...by fighting for recognition while at the same time you ask the trust of Gcs? You are on the wrong path my friend, this is not the way to break out the syndrome. On the other hand, CyR has given a lot of examples of goodwill in order to erase the hate and mistrust syndrome - For us survival was the name of the game - so you are telling me that for your "survival" you had to give our land and properties to settlers from Anatolia? you are telling me that for your "survival" you changed all the GR names of our towns and villages into turkish? you're telling me that for your "survival" you had to turn our churches into mortuaries, stables etc? A criminal doesn't get less criminal when he kills someone for money even if he's starving to death - when the legalities were abused by no other than yourselves, pushing us to pursue a safe haven away from the discriminative and manipulative "majority". You stole our country and made it just yours, - Wrong. You know very well that Tcs are CyR citizens, they have the right to CyR/EU passport, social insurance etc - what did you expect me to do wait around for you to allow me my basic rights to live in Cyprus and not Greece.Where were your legalities when we we isolated, - ask TMT - persecuted and discriminated against? Nothing much has really changed even today you still pursue policies to ensure we are isolated and discriminated against. - What do you expect re VP??? Do you want to be rewarded for the illegalities you perform? Funny. According to international law you have no right to ask legalization of illegalities. You got yourselves isolated and it's your problem if you feel discriminated. Get rid of the illegalities and join the benefits of a free world, stop moaning about the fade that you chose for yourselves. CyR is doing nothing illegal, she follows interantional law to protect her citizens and her interests -

The safe haven - ! - we have created for ourselves does not come without its price which on the face of it we are willing to pay ten times over just to avoid what you have in store for us being reduced to minority status in a GC state run by GCs. - Your choice ...and if you don't change mentality then you will still be paying 10 times over -

This of course will not stop us from working for recognition as a solution -there will be no recognition and you better abandon your unfruitful methods for recognition ...and for the sake of all Cypriots you better get your butt down and work with honesty and goodwill for a solution that will unify the island. You will never get recognition, even your closest allies cannot recognise the 34 year old illegalities. Why? I've said it many times and I'll repeat it: Recognition by UK would mean that UK will put itself at odds with its EU partners regarding EU borders since the whole of CyR is an EU territory. Recognition by the USA means an open confrontation with the EU regarding its borders, therefore, as you can understand your only choice is the unification of the island - imho will never be found because the chasm is to wide and neither side is willing to compromise, any forced solution will only end up in bloodshed - that's why I said that we, Gcs & Tcs, should find a solution for our problem. But on the other hand, if your plan is to have a solution that you will subvert, since TR still wants to have rights over the island and that is unacceptable, then bloodshed would be unevidable - then with the and therefore the status quo will remain for a very long time to come.

As for the selling of GC property which is unavoidable as the TRNC grows, - I'm glad you admit even indirectly that most of the occupied land belongs to Gcs - if we were allowed to develop in other areas and not isolated from doing direct trade or flying in tourists direct then people would not be so willing to sell of exchanged land. So you are really cutting off your nose despite your face, I always argue for a level playing field, why do you not allow me what you see fit for yourselves eg no army in the south no army in the north, - CyR had to have an army after TR's invasion in order to be somehow protected since TR never abondoned his threat method all these years. As for the GR army, is here according to Zurich agreements and the no of the troops are according to those agreements - 2 airports in the south 2 in the north etc etc - without the approval of CyR and according to international law any ports or aiports in the occupied areas are illegal - orthink about it for a while and ask yourself why is it you cannot see fit for me what you see fit for yourself unless GCs are in charge???
