Turkey expects EU membership in 7-8 years

BUDAPEST, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Turkey expects to join the European Union in seven or eight years despite German and French opposition, Chairman of Turkey's Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs Yasar Yakis said here on Tuesday, Hungarian News Agency MTI reported.

Yakis said Turkey was not concerned with trying to convince Germany and France to accept this idea, because by the time Turkeywill be ready for the EU, the political and diplomatic environment will be completely different.

Turkey has resolved to improve democracy and reduce corruption, Yakis said, once we manage that, it will not matter whether we join the EU or not.

Yakis said Turkey does not view the EU as a Christian club but as a community of united values, which Turkey too can espouse.

Chairman of Hungary's European Affairs Committee Matyas Eorsi said Hungary fully supported Turkey's EU accession.

A delegation from Turkey's national assembly is in Hungary to attend the first event of a Hungarian-Turkish twinning program to promote Turkey's European Union accession.

Well, soon as it is in the EU the music will start, with a storm of challenges by minorities who face discriminnation and harsh treatment like the Kurds, the Greeks of Imvros and Tenedos, the Alevites and a host of others. It will be fun to watch. And more fun will be to see how they will reconcile Kemalism with EU principles.

If a solution is found in Cyprus then yes Turkey will be in the EU. If there is no solution then no EU for the animals.

I fed up with hearing same old rubbish about Turkey. They are animals look at their History just to name a few of the crimes. Genocide of the Armenians, crimes against the Kurds the killing of the greeks in Istanbul.

Like I've said many times before I have no problem with my fellow countrymen the TC's but I have no time for Turks from the main land.

If Turkey want to be in the EU then they need to start telling the truth about all the crimes they have committed. I am one of the GC's that accept we committed crimes against the TC's in the 60's. It should not of happened but you cant change history on the future.

I would like a solution and to live side by side with my TC brothers but I'm no fool. Turkey will not allow the TC's to unite the country and they use the fear tactics to keep the TC's on side.

If you guy's are happy living under a fascist regime then give us back what was agreed in the annan plan pay compensation to the people that lost their land and then you go your way we go our way. You can apply for EU status on your own.
