Getting Married in Cyprus

Postby islandman » Tue Apr 22, 2008 2:29 pm

Can anyone please help, my Fiance & I wish to get spliced in june whilst in Cyprus on holiday, we are both Brits, can we arrange the wedding when we get there, or do we have to arrange it prior to our arrival? we only want a small private church ceremony with a couple of witnesses.

Any help would be appreciated & any volunteers to be witnesses, I'm sure a few free drinks would'nt go amiss. lol.

Thanks, Dave Evans.

Hi

There is a lady who arranges weddings based in Limassol, called Evelyn. She is English and married to a Cypriot husband and has lived here many years. She doesn't just cover Limassol so if you are staying elsewhere, it shouldn't be any problem.

She will arrange as much or as little as you want so you don't have to have her arrange everything if you don't want to.

She uses the name Cyprus4Weddings and there is a single web page, which provides her contact details. http://www.cyprus4weddings.com/

Good luck :-)

We got married here in Paphos in November 1999 and eventually came to live in Limassol in 2004. So beware, you never know where your wedding may lead you!

You used to have a special licence to get married here and you need to have a signed affidavit that swears you are both free to marry. You will need to have all your original documents - passports, full birth certificates etc with you when you go to apply for the licence. If any of you are divorced - you have to have your decree absolute too. Usually, they will give you a provisional wedding date in advance of your arrival in Cyprus then will confirm it once your wedding licence is issued.

Things may have changed over the years - but, Evelyn will put you right.

If it's possible to get married there - may I suggest Kolossi Castle on the outskirts of Limassol. It's a fab place and would be great for a wedding ceremony :)

Thanks Julie,

I have emailed Evelyn to see if she caters for very wee weddings, I'm sure she will. Are there any good mens tailors in Limassol like there used to be?

Thanks, Dave.

I got married in Deryneia which is just outside Parlimni . The venue was a Cypriot cottage and we were married by the mayor in a beautiful service . Everyone involved was very helpful and made a very special day for my self , my wife and close family .

That would be good i expect it may be the cost of shipping there that would be the hard bit. they do have ikia now.
so it can be done. With all the new builds i would think there would be a market.Have you been back since wedding? If you do go try to do it when children are young.they then can cope with greek school.
Lots have done it with older ones but i think youngar the better.

Hi Dave

There are still plenty of tailors shops on and around St Andrews Street in the old town. Also behind the streets by the Limassol Castle.
