Limassol to host boating and fishing fair
By Anna Hassapi
THE FIRST Boating and Fishing Fair will take place in Limassol between May 2 and 4, aiming to bring together professionals and consumers, giving them the opportunity to view the latest products and services in boating and fishing.
The event is organised by Limassol Municipality in co-operation with Fishing magazine.
“This fair is the first of its kind in Cyprus,” said Andreas Christou, Mayor of Limassol. “It aims to inform lovers of water sports on the latest equipment for water sports and recreational fishing, but also to contribute to the promotion of activities at sea that are strongly linked to the seaside character of our town,” he added.
Limassol’s amateur fishermen and water sport enthusiasts have been for years asking for the organisation of a fair of this kind. “In the process of designing and materialising this fair we learnt that it has been the strong desire of people involved in recreational fishing and boating to have such an event. Unfortunately, various factors had not allowed for it to happen in the past. We’ve decided to take the risk and – with the support of Limassol Municipality – to organise the fair for a good cause,” said Aristos Aristeidou, Director of Fishing magazine.
All proceeds from the fair will be used for the construction of ramps for small vessel launch, which will be placed around Limassol’s coastal area. Presently there are no ramps, which makes life difficult for boat users.
“Hundreds of amateur fishermen and friends of sea and boats are suffering on a daily basis and are burdened with thousands of euros worth of damage to their boats when they try to launch their boats to sea,” explained Aristeidou.
The fair will take place at Karamontani Exhibition space, next to the old Limassol Port. Fair viewers will get a chance to test drive ships on display.
