The communist "President" of the so-called "RoC" has been shouting his mouth off since before the elections that he will not change a single thing in what the GCs want and what the GCs want is so very clear that even a blind person can see it. Forget it, it will never happen.

OTOH, the so-called "RoC" is loosing millions every single day Turkey keeps the ports closed to "Cypriot" registered ships. The so-called "RoC" has lost so many ships that it is no longer the 4th but 16th (I think) largest in the Maritime listing.

The so-called "RoC" is crying blood and has to so something to get the foreign ships back and also to get Turkey to open it's ports to it so it won't loose billions and billions.

So what alternatives does the so-called "RoC" has?

War? Never in a million years.

Blackmail Turkey with the EU veto? Never in a million years.

It seems that there are only two roots for the GCs to take.

1) Accept BBF and power sharing.

or

2) Recognise the TRNC in exchange for Turkey opening it's ports.

I think we can safely remove the BBF off the list as well because we all know that the GCs will never accept power sharing so what's left?

TRNC over? I don't think so.

I've already told you ... the Turkish troops are going to be issued with official marching orders to withdraw from EU territory! :D

EU calls on Turkey to help find Cyprus solution

By Staff Reporter 22.APR.08
European Parliament committee has called on Turkey to help find a negotiated settlement in Cyprus and use the current window of opportunity to this effect.

The report said that Turkish occupation troops must withdraw from Cyprus to facilitate the negotiation of a political settlement, that will reunite the country, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.

The Committee “stresses the need to arrive at a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus question; calls on both parties to use the current window of opportunity with a view to achieving a comprehensive settlement within the UN framework, based on the principles on which the EU is founded; in this regard, recalls its previous resolutionsstating that the withdrawal of Turkish forces would facilitate the negotiation of a settlement.”

They also adopted another amendment encouraging Turkey’s political leadership to formulate its policies on its own, without the interference of the military.

Furthermore, the report recalls Turkey’s commitment to good neighbourly relations, and stresses its expectation that Turkey will refrain from any threats against neighbouring countries and resolve all outstanding disputes peacefully in accordance with the UN Charter and other relevant international conventions.

The original “Turkish Cypriots”, that is those that arrived on Cyprus between 1571 and 1923, are actually Ottoman Cypriots and have no relation to modern Turkey. Ottoman Cypriots originated from any one of the locations covered by the vast Ottoman Empire so take your pick from this map to indicate your family’s ancestors…

The TC community is far too small and weak to ever form any worthwhile international entity so all that can ever be achieved if partition ultimately succeeds, is the extension of Turkey onto Cypriot territory and the ultimate evaporation of what was once known as the “Turkish Cypriot” people.

Those Turkish Cypriots who dream of a TC “state” of a mere 120,000 people will be quickly disappointed, as holding onto a micro-state and preserving its desired nature would be the hardest tasks of all for a handful of people.

The interferences from Turkey in the north and the Greek Cypriots in the south will be enormous so expect such a micro-state to have a very short and turbulent life; the Cypriot tragedy repeating itself…

Go research San Marino, Monaco or Andorra.

This has been asked of before but Turkey will not budge until a solution has been found and agreed. We do not want them to go until we sign an agreement which provides for our concerns and builds trust and cooperation.

...The paper writes that the Turkish officials threatened Mr Talat and Mr Soyer that they could re-evaluate the aid they send to the occupied areas in case this is not done quickly.

The micro states and municipalities you mention are not contested by their respective modern neighbors because they are fortunate enough to be located in civilized locations of the world (France & Italy) and have existed for a very long time.

I seriously doubt that such a status would be enjoyed by a TC state on troubled Cyprus… :)
