The communist "President" of the so-called "RoC" has been shouting his mouth off since before the elections that he will not change a single thing in what the GCs want and what the GCs want is so very clear that even a blind person can see it. Forget it, it will never happen.
OTOH, the so-called "RoC" is loosing millions every single day Turkey keeps the ports closed to "Cypriot" registered ships. The so-called "RoC" has lost so many ships that it is no longer the 4th but 16th (I think) largest in the Maritime listing.
The so-called "RoC" is crying blood and has to so something to get the foreign ships back and also to get Turkey to open it's ports to it so it won't loose billions and billions.
So what alternatives does the so-called "RoC" has?
War? Never in a million years.
Blackmail Turkey with the EU veto? Never in a million years.
It seems that there are only two roots for the GCs to take.
1) Accept BBF and power sharing.
or
2) Recognise the TRNC in exchange for Turkey opening it's ports.
I think we can safely remove the BBF off the list as well because we all know that the GCs will never accept power sharing so what's left?
TRNC over? I don't think so.
I've already told you ... the Turkish troops are going to be issued with official marching orders to withdraw from EU territory!
Dream on baby.
Less dreaming Eric... more reality:
EU calls on Turkey to help find Cyprus solution
By Staff Reporter 22.APR.08
European Parliament committee has called on Turkey to help find a negotiated settlement in Cyprus and use the current window of opportunity to this effect.
The report said that Turkish occupation troops must withdraw from Cyprus to facilitate the negotiation of a political settlement, that will reunite the country, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
The Committee “stresses the need to arrive at a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus question; calls on both parties to use the current window of opportunity with a view to achieving a comprehensive settlement within the UN framework, based on the principles on which the EU is founded; in this regard, recalls its previous resolutionsstating that the withdrawal of Turkish forces would facilitate the negotiation of a settlement.”
They also adopted another amendment encouraging Turkey’s political leadership to formulate its policies on its own, without the interference of the military.
Furthermore, the report recalls Turkey’s commitment to good neighbourly relations, and stresses its expectation that Turkey will refrain from any threats against neighbouring countries and resolve all outstanding disputes peacefully in accordance with the UN Charter and other relevant international conventions.
