If Talat does precisely as cymart suggests, you would be surprised how many Greek Cypriots will shout "foul". In this gesture they will see an attempt to erode the fighting spirit (?) of the Greek Cypriots so that we would be prone to saying "yes" to another foreign-conceived plan, like the Annan Plan.
Four years ago we failed to understand the radical changes that were taking place in Turkey and light-heartedly dismissed them as another communications ploy of the dreaded Turks. Hence, we allowed the train of history to go past us, in the words of Greek Prime Minister, Costas Simitis.
Already, DIKO and EDEK, partners in the Christofias government, are openly critical of the new President on three fronts:
1. They have raised their voices on the content of the 21 March agreement.
2. They disagreed with the opening of Ledra (Locmaci) Street.
3. They disagreed with the people appointed for the Working Groups and the Technical Committees because some of them were supporters of the Annan Plan.
The difference now of course is that these parties tend to lose their bite when not controlling government.
