Nah! They can only handle a couple of pints of draught before the vomiting commences anyway... we Cypriots drink those just to prepare the throat for the firewater!

there could be 3 million tourists arriving but it doesn't really matter as many hotels are under foreign management, people flying in on cheap charters, living on full inclusive packages... so who will go out and spend? no one... also they count arrivals of foreign nationals, before they get pink slip or yellow slip- they are all considered tourists...
So all the Polish dudes you see walking with in the morning with a cold 0.7l bottle of Garlsberg - are tourists.
30% of all arrivals spend their holiday in their own homes or in short term rentals. So Cyprus mail is not full of crap but the government and their statistics... British tourists dont spend here anymore since 100Gbp is equals to 124Euros...
Cyprus tourism was dead...and this year it just got worse.

Last time I was on an all inclusive holiday, you could eat out at local restaraunts twice a week at no further cost by the issue of a voucher. That way, although the local restaraunts don't make that much on the meal - its better than nothing I suppose............They still make on the drinks etc

Many years ago Tess I used to import drink syrup to Cyprus. It's the stuff that gets mixed with water to make coke, lemonade, tonic water. At the time the cost of one mix was 1p, and the price charged for a lemonade was 50p. So there's your profit, and why all inclusive is such big business.
Prices have not risen that much in the syrup in the last 10 years.

Just booked a week at Lordos beach for £367 B&B through Thomas Cook. Same hotel same time through Libra (a Cypriot company I believe) was £100 more as was Expedia (probably because they advertise on TV so much)

How come?

I work in the Hotel Industry, so I can say first had that this industry is on a downward fall..

I see these figures days, comparison report daily, etc, and we also get input from othe 5 star Hotels in Paphos.

Maybe the increase in the hotels you inquired in Limassol, Larnaca, etc were tourists who wanted to try different towns in Cyprus, but the actual increase in tourism coming into Cyprus, well sorry but it's quite low, and falling, but I do not know a Hotel Manager who would even tell his best friend that bussiness is not good..
