My point is, a who friend is of pure English parentage, looks english (blond hair blue eyes) but has been brought up here (35yrs) and speaks greek as his first language, still needed proof of residency. It's just blatant racism that sadly is still commonplace in Cyprus.

I can look forward to a warm welcome then being blonde.....

Not sure about waterparks because I'd never been in one in Cyprus, but in another places it must be a question of language... As an example last time I was here my cypriot frend and me go to visit the tombs of the kings and he told me Cypriots didnt' pay, I was opening my pouch when he says "Kalimera" and even thou I'm blonde and pale and look like anything but cypriot they allow us to pass without asking anymore.

Just imagine the uproar if a tourist attraction opened in England that only charged you if you're not English?! Are we not all Europeans now? Cyprus should catch up with the rest of Europe and stop living in the dark ages.

I agree entirely, I can just see it happenning in say London can you imagine? They'd never get away with it, and I for one find it insulting that as a 'visitor' and paying tourist you're exploited. And I've never even visited the country - yet :)

There are plenty of places in the UK which do not charge residents for entrance to tourist attractions ....

Everyone in London is exploited - tourist or otherwise!

Prices are extortionate in London, in comparison to other areas of the UK and it's always been that way....
Another of the reasons why we've not bothered to go back for a visit since leaving the UK over 4yrs ago :-)

Tourist attractions are always at premium prices, wherever you go and in some countries - the local residents just don't earn enough money to be able to pay to visit their own heritage sites. Egypt being one of them, which is why they offer reduced admissions in order to encourage them to be able to visit their own pieces of history.
