the Turkish-Cyprus policies coordination group Gerd Andres is in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus for a series of contacts.

The group flew to the TRNC via Ercan airport as guest of the Minister of Public Works and Communications Salih Usar.

Today the delegation was first received by President Mehmet Ali Talat and later by Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer.

Making a statement after the meeting with Mr Soyer, Andres said the major aim of their visit to Cyprus is to present a report on Cyprus to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Federal Parliament and the EU Commission.
Gerd Andres welcomed the latest developments in Cyprus and expressed support to Turkey’s EU membership process, adding that this in a way has a relation to the Cyprus issue.

Stating that the establishment of working groups and technical committees is gladsome, he said Germany is ready to make contributions to the solution of problems which the committees will be dealing with.

He said the visit is not only aimed at speaking about Cyprus politics but that another aim is to exchange views on projects regarding tourism and energy sectors which were given a start during former German chancellor Gerhard Schroder’s recent visit to Cyprus.
For his part, Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer referred to last year’s decision of the German Federal Parliament on the Cyprus issue and reminded that Germany declared its willingness towards a solution in Cyprus based on the principle of equality.

Pointing out that Turkish Cypriot-German relations have been improved following last year’s decision, the Premier said Mr Schroder’s earlier visit to Cyprus led the opening of many doors on the issue.

Mr Soyer stressed that the Turkish Cypriot side will work hard in order to reach a mutually acceptable and lasting settlement in Cyprus on the basis of political equality and UN parametres.

Today the German delegation will cross over to South Cyprus for more contacts.

Ok Halil,

I take it this is a personal visit, not one sanctioned or representative of the Germany government right??

because you know well enough Ercan is an illegal airport and that Germany has already said so right.

So stop sensationalising the fact that they came in through Ercan, as was said before, private individuals do as they want, governments however have international laws to follow.

Please also tell us what they had for breakfast as i find it facinating that you have to report their every move, and whilst you are at it, you can tell us when they need to go to the toilet for a shit as well.

This would be really rivetting for us too! Moron.

Where and when have the German government ever said that Ercan is an illegal airport?

Where or when (other than in a GC court) has anybody or any airline ever been prosecuted for using Ercan Airport?

As for smart arsed answer, what other airline goes to ercan with the consent and sanction of its own givernment??

The last time Shrodinger (or whatever his name is) visited Germany herself disowned him and said that he was travelling as an individual and that the germany government is NOT being represented.

If that doesn't say it, wel ....

The only recognised leagl airports of entry are Larnca and Paphos, anything else is illegal by default. Stop be a clever cloggs I don't need to be playing word games.

You know what I mean.

Where and when? - a reasonable question.

If it is illegal has anyone been prosecuted for using it?
If so, where and when? - a reasonable question.
(Actually I think I know the answer to this one, certainly since 2004 since I remember reading of a GC who had used it, and the policewanted to prosecute him in RoC but were told that they couldn't. And now tourists coming through Ercan go back and forth through the Green Line without any bother. Residents of the North sometimes use Ercan, sometimes use Larnaca, depending on conveniense)

Unless you can show me otherwise, I don't think that it's illegal, it's just a matter of airline economics. The Greek routes matter more than one to TRNC.

Quote:
Former German Chancellor in bid to boost business to the north
By Simon Bahceli

FORMER German Chancellor Gerhard Schroder will fly into the north on Friday in an apparent effort to boost business in the breakaway Turkish Cypriot state, the German Embassy confirmed yesterday.

Speaking to the Cyprus Mail, Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy Joachim Heidorn said, “I can confirm that he is coming to the island on Friday and that he will be accompanied by a group of businessmen.” Heidorn stressed however that Schroder was visiting the island as a “private citizen” and not as a representative of the German government.
“He is no longer an MP; he is an employee of Gazprom,” Heidorn said.

However, links between the Schroder visit and Gazprom were played down yesterday by head of the north’s Chamber of Commerce Hasan Ince, who said that the planned meetings had more to do with efforts to generate business links between the north and Germany.

“We’ll be holding talks with businessmen involved primarily in tourism, but also some other fields,” Ince told the Mail.

While Ince refused to be drawn on what the “other fields” might be under discussion, attention has focused on wealthy Turkish Cypriot businessman Ali Ozmen Safa, who recently unveiled ambitious plans to bring electricity to the north of the island via underground cables from Turkey. Thoughts of a link between the energy giant and power projects involving the north were further boosted by the fact that Safa’s Star Kibris was first to break the news of Schroeder’s visit yesterday morning.

Spokesman for the Turkish Cypriot leadership Hasan Ercakica yesterday, for his part, focused on the political significance of the visit, saying it would be “positive” as it would attract German media to the north. He added that Schroder’s visit had received the backing of Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat.

For starters.

the rest I cannot be bother to dig out. But after 34 years one would think that every major airline would be flying out of there IF it were LEGAL and above board.

A recent request to the UK to have direct flights to Ercan was Turned down on the basis that is was illigal. You can search for that one.
