CYPRUS ISSUE AT THE POLITICAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE OF PACE

Postby halil » Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:20 am

The Cyprus issue is being discussed at the Political Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

The Committee is discussing a report by the PACE Rapporteur on Cyprus Joachim Hörster.

Prior to Tuesday’s discussions, Mr Hörster met with Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot officials in Strasbourg.

The Republican Turkish Party-United Forces deputy Mehmet Çağlar and the National Unity Party deputy Hüseyin Özgürgün attended the meeting during which the two sides expressed their views on the report.

Mr Çağlar told the BRT after the meeting that they exchanged views on some articles of the report, which he said, is a good one.

Reminding that the latest version of the report will be discussed by the Political Affairs Committee, he said Mr Hörster will finalize his report after talks with the two sides in Cyprus this week.

He noted that the PACE Rapporteur is considering to invite President Mehmet Ali Talat and Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias to Strasbourg before finalizing his report in October
