Ryan for talks with Greek Cypriot leaders today and with Turkish Cypriot leaders the following day.
"This now is the best chance that Cyprus has for reunification on the basis of a bizonal, bicommunal federation," Britain's special representative for Cyprus, Joan Ryan, told reporters in Athens ahead of a visit to the divided Mediterranean island.

"We are all committed as guarantor powers to doing all that we can to support and encourage the progress of this process," she said after talks with Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis.

Total rubbish, as guarantor powers why didn't she do something in '74 instead of just sitting back and letting it happen. Of course all pre-planned.

Seems to me to be guarantor powers to interfere more like.

Turkey didn't need any help.

She managed to stop the GC coup, and in turn topple the Greek military government.

"We are all committed as guarantor powers "

What she is really saying is that Britain is eager to safeguard its interests: bases, radar facilities and all those privilieges given under the 1960 constitution. They want similar rights in the new constitution. They have NO care for Cypriots at all.

If I may post on this section..
In reply to Nikitas, isn't that the way of the world. Do countries care about other countries unless there is something in it for themselves.
It is a dog eat dog world, and you are right the UK is only interested in it's Armed Services and position of bases in Cyprus, and on the flip side what thought is given by Cypriots towards the British ?

Purdey,

You are dead on target. Nations have interests, not sentiments. Which means we must interpret actions like these visits by Ryan, Buyukanit, and others, in their proper light and figure out our intersts in the same way.
