1928 national Geographic "Unspoilt Cyprus"

Postby umit07 » Mon Apr 14, 2008 9:42 pm

I have scaned 65 images of Cyprus from a 1928 National Geographic magazine but I am having trouble finding a image server where I can upload a 8 MB image. THere are 65 images a total of about 330 MB. If I can't find a way to load them as images, I'll break the folder into 4 pieces and upload it onto Rapidshare or something similar.

Any suggestions ?

Saw this on another forum:-
http://upload.verongames.com/

Seems to claim unlimited bandwidth and unlimited file size. Give it a try.

8mb for a single image seems quite large. I have 7 megapixel images from my camera that only use up about 1.2mb each. What sort of compression are you using on the jpgs? Or are you scanning at a seriously high dpi?

Cheers

Not all images are 8 mb but there are quite a few in that range. Here's one I just uploaded

I'll post the whole lot tomorrow.

How big, physically, do you need them?
Here is the same picture. Converted to grayscale (from RGB colour) and resized...35KB

That's a lot better Pubdog, which program did you use to convert them? They don't have to be to big , little bigger than what you posted would be fine.

I am sure that others will correct me as I am no expert on this and have not tried it yet but apparently if you keep saving your pictures as a jpeg over and over a few times they are reduced in size each time with no loss to quality so you do not need any other programs....Sorry if this does not work but I would love to see the photos :D

They do get degraded Zan as the repeated jpeg compression makes them lose information (jpeg is lossy compression).

Umit07. I used Adobe Photoshop - maybe a little overkill for such a task perhaps, but effective. I suppose I could have used M$ PhotoEditor, but I know how to work Photoshop.

171KB and a bit bigger...

Here's a crappy image converter that works and will give you plenty of days to do the job before the nag messages appear. Click "Download the Free Trial "...
