This is the point I am trying to make. How can getting back to the exact circumstances where we the TCs were attacked and slughtered be considered the "middle ground"?

Murataga, the problem here is that you view things very one-sided. You say that the TCs don't want to get back to the 1963 circumstances and they need safeguards. Don't you think that the GCs also need some safeguards since they have suffered ten-fold casualties by the country that demands to have the right to intervene at will?
Here we have a problem where both communities are have some fears and a solution needs to be found in order to satisfies BOTH these fears AT THE SAME TIME.
The question is can the two sides put their feet in the other's shoes and understand those fears? I believe that the GC side with Christofias in the presidency knows very well that the TC fears need to be satisfies by introducing some kind of guarantees. However, this should not be done at the expense of the GC community. We all know it very well that the GCs will never vote for a solution that fives any country the right to intervene unilaterally.

The compromise could be that Turkey Greece and UK only guarantee until Turkey enters the EU, this would also serve as an incentive for GCs not to block Turkeys path even after a solution.
