The Cyprus Turkish Ship Agencies’ Union has underlined the view that Turkey should not open its ports to the use of the Greek Cypriot Administration unless the international isolation of the Turkish Cypriot People is lifted and a comprehensive solution is provided to the Cyprus problem.
The President of the Union Akil Agaoglu has issued a written statement, claiming that officials from the European Union and the Greek Cypriot Administration are trying to start a campaign towards enabling the Greek Cypriot-registered ships use the Turkish ports- which have been forbidden from doing so since 1987.
Pointing out that the Greek Cypriot world of navigation has been carrying out a series of lobbying activities on the issue, Mr Agaoglu said the Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias says he is in favour of providing an immediate solution to this problem, independently from the solution of the Cyprus problem.
`We want to highlight the fact that this issue is a `breaking point` for Turkish Cypriot business world` he added.
