Housemaids having unprotected sex
A SURVEY on foreign housemaids working on the island has shown that they have a limited knowledge of sexual and reproductive health, with 85 per cent saying they have unprotected sex.
According to 30 Filipinas and ten Sri Lankans polled by the Family Planning Association, 52.2 per cent are sexually active, mainly with Cypriot partners.
The poll also revealed that the knowledge they do have is mainly of the biological side of things, such as human anatomy and pregnancy.
Forty-five per cent did not know that they were entitled to health insurance and what it includes, adding that it was difficult to access social services due to the differences between their working hours and those of the government. Many choose to go to private clinics, despite the costs.
Over six per cent stated that they had at some point been sexually harassed by their employer while many complained of facing prejudice.
