''Majority of Turkey is made up of poor, uneducated, religious and backward idiots and that's a fact, so what can we expect from democracy in this country? AKP is a good example.''
What kind of a post is this?
Turkey's health and education system is amazing, Turkey has some of the world's best doctors and universities in the world.
A lack of education about Turkey is what you guys have, you only know the bad things.. Majority of Turkish people are not religious and no one will EVER let the memory of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (RIP) die down.. AKP can NOT change anything in Turkey, the Turkish people and the Turkish army will NEVER allow it.
Turkey is one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
Turkey's army is 4th best in the world.
Tourism in Turkey is much higher than in Greece.
Universities in Turkey is much better than in Greece.
Turkey is not a poor country.
Turkish people are not poor. There are rich and poor in every country, even America (the richest country).. Turkey tries to provide as much as it can for its poor, but it has a population of 75 million.
Turkey is a modern, free country where everybody is allowed to worship the religion they want and be how they want.. There is many Greek Orthadox schools in Turkey, but in Greece there is very few Turkish schools or none.
Turkey has many problems, eg PKK (which Greece provides money too), nobody wants a strong Turkey. If Greece was living the same problems as Turkey then Greece would never be able to survive. But Turkey is still strong and surviving, Turkey's economy and strength gets better and better each year.
Turkey has many natural resourses, which is enough to last them for many years. They do not need to join a dependant league.
I think you guys are jealous of Turkey, this is why you feel the need to criticize it so much.
Please watch out for what you post, and make sure you know exactly what you are talking about before you say it.
I posted this little earlier else where , perhaps you can visit the WHO and discover the true figures on Turkeys progress .
No one is saying that Turkey is an ugly country or that its people are Illiterate , but out of 75 million people over 10 million can not read or write , rather a high figure wouldn't you say so .
The infant mortality rate is one of the highest in the world , this has to be addressed with more diligence than that paid to whether women should wear a scarf or not. Here are those figures.
Here are some figures comparing , literacy , infant mortality and life expectancy between Turkey and Cyprus :
LITTERACY RATE INFANT MORTALITY LIFE EXPECTANCY.
TURKEY : 87% 38.3/1000 72.9
CYPRUS : 99% 6.89/1000 80.5
Here you have it , Shah was right in some respects. Turkey is way behind Cyprus in those areas that really can be used as criteria for measuring a nations standing in the world.
The Turks live an average of 7.5 years less than the Cypriots , their baby death rates are 38 per thousand as against 8 for Cyprus !
Turkey needs Europe to help combat these dreadful statistics that are almost as high as as those of the Middle East and North Africa.
We live longer in Cyprus by 7.5 years and we only have an infant mortality rate per 1000 live births of under 7 , bearing in mind that the world average is 55 , that of the UK is 5.01 , the USA 6.37 , Turkeys IMR at 38.3 is considerably higher. The Turkish politicians are no doubt familiar with these statistics and are naturally concerned in improving life in Turkey . EU membership for Turkey is crucial not only for Turkish people but for the Greeks and the Cypriots. Does Turkey have the vision and the will to continue its journey into the 21st century ?
